Can somone who has access to Insider post the article titled, " The Rockets Summer" Are they in play for big names? http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/feat...insider.espn.go.com/nba/features/rumors#15533
"The Houston Rockets aren't usually mentioned as a destination for top-tier free agents this summer. And that's for good reason: the cap space isn't there to sign a max guy. But that doesn't mean the Rockets won't be players this summer, as they have some guys that could be used in a sign-and-trade at their disposal. "Sources close to Houston's thinking say simply playing the status quo and waiting for Yao Ming to return is not nearly enough and Houston will get involved with some of the major free agents," writes Steve Kyler of HOOPSWORLD. He continues: "Those same sources said it's not out of the question Trevor Ariza or even recently acquired Kevin Martin could be included in a sign-and-trade deal if it were to land them Chris Bosh or Amare Stoudemire." Remember: Bosh is a Texas native, and has said he doesn't want to play second banana to anyone. He'd likely become The Man in Houston, unlike if he went to Miami and played with Dwyane Wade. But there's another Texas team, the Mavericks, that will also have some chips for a sign-and-trade, starting with Erick Dampier's contract, and they could be in the mix for Bosh as well."
I think it's common sense that Kevin Martin would be dealt if, AND ONLY IF, it brings back a player that's considered to be better (e.g. Bosh, Amare, Wade, etc.) If Morey and the Rockets intend to keep their word and match and sign Scola to whatever contract he gets offered, I think they will want him to be their starting 4 for next season and beyond.
I don't think Morey would include Ariza or Martin unless it was for a wing player like Joe Johnson...I think if we do a trade for Bosh it would be a sign and trade with Scola including either Battier or Jefferies, a NY first rounder and maybe cash to even things out...
I learned this past deadline, ESPN Insider is crap...now Stein and Bucher on Twitter is a different story.
I wouldn't trade Martin unless we get a better 2 guard AKA D.Wade. Basically we have been for years struggling at finding a 2 guard who could shoot whenever Stacy got hurt. We have a GREAT PF (Scola), and a PF with huge potential (Hill), why go after a PF? If there is some sort of big trade to bring in Wade that would be great, otherwise not so sure I'd lose all my cap space and likely Scola or Martin for Bosh or Amare, I just don't see them as that big of an upgrade.
Martin might be including in the sign-and-trade deal ?? really ?? I don't think Morey brought martin for the sign-and-trade fill, I think this article is a joke...
(sigh) Another BSPN article. Martin and Ariza are near-perfect complements to YM (or any low post scorer). You know who else would be a nice complement? LaMarcus Aldridge
Pssst.....we are not looking for compliments to YM, we are looking for YM to compliment AB and Scola, and Kmart... DD
Ariza, Battier, Andersen, our pick, and NY's 2012 first rounder for Lebron. Brooks Martin Lebron Yao Scola Lowry Budinger Jeffries Hill Johnson
We almost got Amare for basically nothing at the trade deadline. I remember it was Battier an somebody else. Can somebody refresh my memory who was rumored to be involved? I would think a similar deal would still be on the table. Especially if he stays in his contract for next season.
Thanks. I was thinking it somebody else other than Scola. I still think such a deal will be looked at but with a few tweaks considering how awesome Scola has been playing since the trade deadline.
