Rockets: They don't have any glaring holes and won't rush to spend the money just for the hell of it. They'd love to get their hands on Lewis, but it looks like they're running a distant second to the Mavs unless they can work out a sign-and-trade with the Sonics. The Rockets could still use some help at shooting guard, and a sharpshooter like Voshon Lenard or Dell Curry isn't out of the question for the veteran's minimum. It's more likely, however, that they just re-sign Oscar Torres and Tierre Brown to one-year deals and call it a summer.

I wouldn't mind taking a shot at a guy like Lenard. He has a nice shot and can rebound too. I don't know much about his defense though.

I agree, i'd take a chance on lenard, maybe even curry more, they can both shoot the trey, although curry is old, he still has the quickest release and can hit big shots, he proved that in toronto....he reminds me of a former rocket we had, eddie, eddie johnson that is.

Lenard is a very decent all around player. Has some defense, can shoot some and would easily be worth the minimum.

I forgot all about Veshon. He lit us up last year in Denver and having him back up Cat would be a huge boost. T. Brown and O. Torres can hit the road if we sign Veshon.

curry only has a couple of years left. i would take vashon if we could get him. os will turn out to be a good player but we need a good back-up now, that will last us for a while. vashon lenard will be able to shoot untill he is in his 40's.

as for tierre. he is a pg. we need a 3rd pg just incase something happens, you dont want to be stuck with only 1 pg on the team.

It didn't rate another "Rashard" thread. This morning's ESPN Insider:

Sonics: It looks like Rashard Lewis is heading back to Houston without a contract. According to the Seattle Post Intelligencer, the sides were unable to bridge the financial gap on a proposed seven-year deal for Lewis. The Sonics have offered $60 million guaranteed, including an additional $15 million in bonuses and incentives. Neither Lewis nor the Sonics appear to be in any hurry to make a decision though one team source in Seattle felt that if Lewis left Seattle without an agreement, he was leaning toward ending negotiations and signing with the Mavs.

as long as rashard doest resign with seattle, i dont really care if he signs with us or the mavs. if he leaves the sonics, they will be out of the playoff hunt. that leaves 1 more spot open for us.

I don't want to throw a monkey wrench into everyone's speculation but **** i have had enough of this ...

Rashard is as close to a Rox deal as he is anyone else. He is pissed at the Sonics, he doesbn;t particularily like the Mav's caavalier attitude toewards him so far ... and all those "draft him not draft him" flutters have been answered by CD et al .... "(hey sorry but it was just business") ...

Rashard can be signed byn the Rockets ... he is home thniking on it and he likes it here more than anyone imagines.

    Couple of key elements ...

    1. His family are over the supposed snub at the draft.

    2. He really, I mean really, likes playing here.

    3. He wants to help launch a new Rockets team at a new center and a new dynasty, and a new ...... .

    4. He is super confident about his abilities ... read that as he is NOT afraid to take a flier for a year and play it up(i.e. pay it up, Les) in a years time.

    5. We are not far from him making a deceison. Days, folks.

I am not trying to buiild false hopes or anything ... just that it is alot closer than anyone north of the Allen Parkway imagines.

    Cheers.

    You heard it here, right!

So we have a shot at Rashard with a one year deal? So we don't lose anyone in a sign and trade? WOW! that would be amazing if it happened. I've got my fingers crossed. Thanks oeilpere.

I thought that in order for a new team to sign a player to the MLE, the contract had to be for a minimum of 3 years. Doesn't that make Rashard signing for a "one year flier" impossible? Can anyone clarify?

I don't think so. Didn't we sign Taylor and Anderson to those? Or maybe just one of them. I'll try to find something.

This is a FAQ on RealGMs site. If you go under "exceptions to the salary cap" or something like that, it will discuss things like this. (LBR,MLE,etc.) It doesn't say anything about having to sign only for 3yrs. In fact, it uses an example for 6 years, I think.
