    From ESPN Insider:

"However, league sources claim that the Lakers, not the Mavericks, are the team Kidd really wants to play for. Look for the Kidd camp to keep pushing the Lakers to send the expiring contracts of Gary Payton and Rick Fox along with a young player like Caron Butler or Kareem Rush to the Nets in return for Kidd. The deal would give the Nets lots of cap relief along with a promising young player and give the Lakers the best backcourt in the NBA"

One word if this happens: Damn!!

    That would be sick.

Gotta admit, it'd make me a little happy for Rudy, though.

As long as Malone doesn't resign.

I think it just depends on if the Nets are committed to going the Denver Nuggets route.

If so, then I think it's very plausible: Expiring contracts + 1 or 2 good, young, cheap players + a few 1st rounders for Kidd and his 90 mill contract and iffy knee.

Two babies on one team!!! Rudy will be playing daycare not coach...If I were rudy I would be scared for my job after the allstar game if these 2 are on a team. we have seen what one can do to a team when unhappy, what if both are???

    IT WONT HAPPEN

The Lakers already have the best backcourt in the NBA.

I can believe it, and if I were Thorn, I'd do it. I have a very low opinion of Kidd right now, not based on his abilities, but based on his microfracture (not a routine scope) knee surgery and his suffocating contract. I am certain that in 2-3 years, his salary will be looked at as Houston's is now.

If I were Rod Thron I'd do it. They're not going anywhere with the current team. Ink RJ to long term deal and start rebuilding.

I still think NJ can get a better deal from Dallas than from the Lakers. Who is the young star? Caron? and expiring contracts?

its tough to pick up quality FA's to a team that is in rebuilding mode.. unless you get lucky like Utah.

If I were Rod I would ink RJ to a long term deal let it be known he is our new franchise player and build the team around him. To be honest I dont know if RJ is franchise player material, he is good and talented but look at other teams that have built their teams around a guard/SF and how well they have done recently.

    Orlando - TMac
    Houston - Francis
    Boston - PPierce
    Toronto - VCarter
    Philly - AI

here are some examples... recently that blue print has been floundering and its not because of lack of talent. What is it then?

why do teams built around a guard/small forward type struggle so much lately? Is it because of the zone? or the PF's are just too dominant?

    any ideas? Im just curious/

I'm not sure that Dallas has anybody to send for Kidd save Finley, and the Nets are set with Jefferson at the swingman spot anyway.

There would probably have to be a third team involved unless the Nets think they can play Jefferson & Finley, which they probably could, although tha would be a lousy team.

If that's true (highly doubtfull) Lakers have to do it since the disparity in talent is enormous, however, I don't know how much better it is going to make them. Both Kobe and Odom handle the ball a lot, you add Kidd and, yeah, it will be a fun team to watch, but they still need size, half court execution, scoring in the paint, etc....
