http://insider.espn.go.com/insider/story?id=1542217 I am not sure if this has been posted already or not, but there is an article in ESPN Insider which proposes the Hawks trade Glenn Robinson to Houston for Glen Rice. Their reasoning is that Robinson did not work out well with Hawks style and are up for major revamping of roster and would trade to acquire Rice's expiring contract, which would take $9mil of their books at the end of next season. Now, i know these proposals may not have any substance, but would you consider trading for glenn robinson, especially if all we are giving up is glen rice? maybe also see what it would take to land shareef abdur rahim in trade as well? that way we would fill out or holes at PF and SF. Glenn Robinson? I have never really been impressed with him, even when he was in Milwaukee. I thought he was really worked hard, but not really a special talent. Maybe he has talent that I haven't seen. I wouldn't do it.
Hell no! I hope to God that we don't get him. Him, Steve and Mobley would not get along. Rice's contract is expiring and I know we can get some one else alot better.
This actually does NOT surprise me. This is a perfect example of what an "expiring contract" can do. It ALLOWS a team to trade away dead weight and a LESS talented player in Glen Rice for a MORE talented player in Glen Robinson. I can see the Hawks offering this as they need to make changes and slashing salary is something they need to do. Interesting enough, from the Hawks games I saw this year they played better when Robinson was NOT on the floor and concentrated more with Terry and Rahim. Not sure Robinson really fits in Atlanta. I am not sure what type of "team" guy Robinson is. But he certainly seems to fit in the mold of a Rudy type SF in someone that can score and shoot well from the outside. I think his defense is suspect however. And what type of contract does Robinson have? How many more years are left on it? I see this deal as something the Rockets should consider, but put on the back burner and concentrate their efforts on trying to get a stud like Elton Brand first before going after someone like Glen Robinson.
We can't have Glenn Robinson on our roster since we already had the other Big Dog on our roster once, and for some reason I think Calvin would make this point one too many times.
My mistake Rocketman95, but it is not as much an article but just chat session regarding the non-playoff teams. I'll put up what they think of Rockets and the small proposal of swap: Q: Should the Hawks re-sign Jason Terry this summer? Call me crazy, but I think he's the most valuable player on the team. -- J. Terry, Atlanta FORD: OK. . . No one's clear what's going to happen to the Hawks this summer. New owners? New coach? New GM? New philosophy? They had the talent to make the playoffs this year, but the chemistry just wasn't there. In hindsight, the Glenn Robinson trade was big mistake. The Hawks actually played better without Robinson than they did with him. . They'd love to trade him, and there may be a deal out there that makes sense. Don't be shocked if the Rockets entertain swapping Glen Rice for Robinson. While Rice wouldn't be an upgrade for the team, his contract expires at the end of next season, meaning the Hawks could get his contract off the books in a year. Heres what he thinks of Houston: Lottery questions: Can these 13 unlucky teams turn it around this summer? By Chad Ford NBA Insider Send an Email to Chad Ford Michael Jordan and the Wizards are dead and buried. The Cavaliers ended their horrendous season true to form. They won their last game, wrecking their chance to have the worst record in the league and the most pingpong balls in the draft lottery . . . For the first time in 15 years, there are scraps left over at the dinner table in Chicago now that Jerry Krause has left the Bulls . . . On Monday Insider talked about the ramifications of losing in the first round of the playoffs. Today, Insider digs through the mailbag and takes a look back at the fallen . . . Q: Please tell me that the Rockets will make the playoffs next year. With Steve Francis, Cuttino Mobley, Yao Ming and Eddie Griffin that's a playoff team, right? -- R. Tomjanovich, Houston. FORD: That's a tough call. I like the Rockets, but they are in the same boat with the Sonics, Warriors, Grizzlies, Clippers and Nuggets. All of them figure to get better next season, but who are they going to knock out of the playoffs? Seriously. The eighth seed, the Suns, are on the rise. If Amare Stoudemire keeps up the learning curve, they'll be fighting for a fifth or sixth seed next season. The Jazz are on the decline a bit, but if they can land Andre Miller this summer, my guess is that they're still in the playoffs next season when the smoke clears. The Blazers are always a grand jury away from implosion, but they have too much talent. The Lakers are the Lakers. And the T-Wolves will always have a shot as long as Kevin Garnett still wears a uniform. In other words, barring a catastrophic injury to one of the current eight playoff teams in the West, it's hard to see it happening. The Rockets have other issues. They don't have a first-round pick this year. And owner Les Alexander isn't anxious for the team to use its mid-level exception because of luxury-tax issues. At some point, the Rockets are going to have to either cross their fingers that Griffin and Bostjan Nachbar start playing up to their potential, or they're going to have to look for a trade. I like the Rockets, but they still seem to be a piece away Sorry bout confusion, i was told that it was an article, but when i checked it myself, i realised it was just on of those chat sessions with Chad Ford.
Well the only reason i would want G.Robinson is because of his offensive abilities, and would help free up Ming in the post. Our front-line, with exception of Mo, are terrible shooters. This could work imo, if we brought in a power forward ala brand who could not only play defense but would not demand the ball and still be effective. If this were to go through, Mobley would HAVE to get traded, as has already been proposed to happen this off-season anyway.
Dear Rudy T, Glenn Robinson is Rice but a couple years younger. He sucks. He has lost his first step and cant penetrate. He run a break. The very fact the rox are considering this proves once again I was right. The rox will set out and bring in sorry veterans to sell a couple of tickets. To bad the rockets dont have enough patient to wait and get a better FA for 9 freaking million dollars. God you guys are r****ded. signed:"born again spurs fan"
I was just curious, Sexy, but assuming we resign Posey... how much SG did he play after we got him? I thought he would be an upgrade at the 3, which he is/was, but I don't recall him playing much at the 2 at all. That surprised me, since Cat was playing way too many minutes there, even injured. Comments I recall JP making a couple of times (don't ask for a link! ) implied that he thought of himself as a 3, although he'd play "wherever Coach needs me". Have we really seen him enough at the 2 to get a good feel for how he'd fill the spot? Maybe I missed the couple of games where he logged alot of minutes there, but I saw the overwhelming majority of them. (with interuptions from the family, bless 'em, for putting up with my addiction)
Glenn Robinson is a legitimate 20ppg scorer with 3 point range. He would fit in perfectly in a Yao Ming run offense. I don't know what else the Rocks have cooking but this does sound interesting. Stats on Robinson He is 30 years old, so he has at least 4 good years left, not sure about his contract though. It may not be a great deal, but it is at least worth considering. DD
i can't help but take this as an admittance by the rockets that they the coaching staff has absolutely ZERO ability to develop young talent. like i've said for years now - rudy is a coach that is only effective with veteran that essentially coach themselves. he is quite possibly the worst basketball "teacher" in the entire nba.
