This is the first time I've seen JVG mentioned in the national media. http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=14682 Farrakh (New York): Coach of the year race this year is intense. I am going with Van Gundy. What's your take? John Hollinger: I would definitely go with Van Gundy. For him to have Houston no. 1 in defensive efficiency, and win so many games without Yao and T-Mac, is worthy of the award.
Depends on playoff games. JVG's chance stands when Rockets past the 2nd round. However, if MAVs get a trophy, it is obviously AJ again.
Coach of the Year is chosen based on regular season performance. That is why Rudy T never won the award.
JVG should be considered very heavily, especially if the rockets make it to the 3 seed. but we all know how these awards work...avery will get it b/c his team is talented and has stayed healthy for the most part
I've heard the occasional national sports radio broadcast mention this as well. So far I would say he is prettty deserving.
What?? Coach of the year?! FIRE GUNDY!!!! I am just saying it for the hatas on the board before they plague this thread
Jerry Sloan has to be in the running too. I'd give it to whomever finishes higher among JVG and Sloan, and if they are tied I go with JVG.
Where is DaDa and the other JVG haters? BTW, I started a thread titled JVG=NBA coach of the year and got flamed by all the Gundy haters. Now he might not win it but he is certain to finish in the top 3-4.
So how does this math work? If the Rocket's success is not based on JVG's coaching does that mean it's based on the addition of Shane Battier? Meaning you can't be both a JVG hater and knock the Battier trade. Or do people who knock both the trade and JVG get the easy way out and say it's all based on Tmac's resurgence? I have no doubt Tmac has been a huge part of keeping the team in the playoff race, but spread the love, man!
i think it'll come down to Van Gundy, Isiah, Sam Mitchell, and Avery if Dallas does something historic (70 wins or so)
good call on sloan...i forgot about him (i guess most take him for granted now b/c he's been so good for so long).
Doc Rivers got one without making the playoffs with a 40 win team that was expected to win 12-15 games. JVG has a team that was expected to repeat last year's debacle and instead we're fighting for homecourt in the first round. No reason he shouldn't win.
DaDakota for coach of the year! His All Star Lineup of Vspan, Reddick, Boki, Langhi, and Badiane beats them all!
Nice to see Hollinger say that; he knows his stuff. At least compared to all the other so called "experts" out there.
