From ESPN INSIDER: Three workouts, in New York, Houston and Memphis, have left three teams stunned. Teams knew about Butler's toughness, NBA body, athleticism and his ability to play both inside and outside. But his perimeter shooting, ball handling, and basketball IQ have blown them away. The word has spread fast that Butler may be, next to Duke's Jay Williams, the player most prepared to contribute immediately to his NBA team. Of course, teams were saying the same thing about Rodney White last year. The difference is that Butler is a tenacious defender and a proven leader. If the Rockets can't swing Yao Ming, and can't come up with a trade to their liking for Williams, don't fall out of your chair if Butler is the No. 1 pick in the draft. They were that impressed. ---------------------- If this guy's that good, I wish we could get him. Can he play the shooting guard? Defense at the 2 would be nice. I wouldn't take him #1, but if GS takes him at #3, maybe we can do a deal.
I love this guy. I personally think he will be the best player coming out of this draft.....I really hope the Rockets find a way to get this guy, maybe trade the #1 for Dampier/Foyle and Butler?
Rockets.com has video of Caron's workout and a clip of him doing some shooting drills from college three. You guys might have seen it, but I don't think anyone visits that site since we have Clutchcity.net
Those two videos of Butler were pretty impressive. He has a very nice jumper and did well in the post up drill. The kid is very strong. It is nice to see some of what happens during a Rockets workout. I wonder if the posting of Butler's workout is of any significance? BTW, the official Rockets website has been putting up really good content (transcripts and videos) this summer.
Thanks for the link, JeffB. Did any of you watch the video with Butler, Kareem Rush, and Aaron McGhee? They were putting all three of them in post up situations from the foul line and on the low block. I know it's just one workout, but I don't think I saw Kareem Rush miss one shot in the entire video. Those were difficult shots, too... contested fadeaways. I know he's a streaky player... but what he did in the video was just ridiculous. That being said, I doubt we'd draft him unless we thought he could play the 3, but that was an unreal shooting exhibition nonetheless.
Did you notice from reading the transcript of Butler's interview that he never mentioned Cat? He mentioned Steve and the other guards, and Steve and Eddie. Does he see himself as a 2? As always, one shouldn't make assumptions (though we all do all the time!). I just found it interesting, and wonder what he sees as his role as in the League.
I think they would do that if we put in KT instead of MoT.I would love that deal. THis would be the greatest draft ever! we would be getting Butler and Jamison. The oly problem would be choosing whether to start Jamison or Butler at the 3, or would Eddie be a 6th man for Jamison and Butler playing 3 and 4 off the bench?
I like this trade, maybe even throw in KT if its a deal breaker. This leaves us with Cato manning the 5 though. Are we going the use the Warriors #1 next year to select Chris Marcus? Or maybe LeBron James
Nice trade, but Golden State would never fall for that. I'd trade our #1 for just Butler and their #1 next year, however!!
truth is, if the warriors would do this, i would trade #1 pick for antawn jamison plus warriors #3 pick by itself. This gives the rockets an opportunity to get a legit PF, so they can trade MoT away, and have a chance to draft Ming anyway at 3, and if hes not available there, Butler doesn't sound bad . Then the rockets would be set for awhile. pg-francis sg-mobley sf-griffin pf-jamison c-ming or if they get butler.. francis mobley butler jamison/griffin cato that would be pimp
