    PF: Carl Landry, Houston
Landry is playing only 24.9 minutes per game off the bench for Houston, but he's a dark-horse candidate for the sixth man award and his play suggests he should start ahead of Chuck Hayes or Luis Scola. The third-year forward is shooting 55.8 percent from the floor and hasn't been shy about putting it up.

In fact, his average of 24.3 points per 40 minutes is one of the big reasons Houston has been much more potent offensively than many expected. His performance comes on the heels of two very strong seasons off the Rockets' bench, so it's high time Landry's skills moved into the limelight.

    ...

    Backup PG: Kyle Lowry, Houston
Aaron Brooks gets all the pub, but Lowry is no slouch, either, and at times finishes games in Brooks' place. While Lowry brings one glaring weakness to the table -- he's a poor outside shooter -- he's so good in other areas that he's still a valuable performer. Foremost is the fact that few guards defend with his tenacity, so despite standing just 6-0, he can lock down opposing point guards and occasionally check 2s.

Additionally, he gets to the line with amazing frequency for a small guard, while his ability to push the ball in transition opens up plentiful opportunities for teammates.

I have seen all of the threads and posts declaring Lowery should start. I'm a huge fan of AB but honestly I'm not sure one is better than the other. They are certainly different. If the Rockets could keep only one I don't know who I would take.

Lowery and Landry are the biggest reasons the the Houston bench is better than some teams starting units. Both players could be starters.

    Nice. Thanks for the read.

There are reasons Landry doesn't start over Scola & Chuck, lol. But Carl & Kyle have been absolutely great.

I guess Chuck is not underrated anymore.

The whole rockets team could probably fill up the list.. That wouldn't be very fun to read though..

Hopefully they stay underrated. We can't afford to lose a guy like Lowry--someone who can control the pace of the offense--in free agency. I like Brooks, but he doesn't play the PG position nearly as well.

Landry has improved every year with the team, most recently developing a nice set spins, hooks, and turnaround jumpers in the post. He's also become a better shot blocker, but his defensive rebounding still needs work.

Our bench is outperforming our starting lineup. Even Andersen's starting to look a little better.

I am very impressed by Landry this season, and think he is becoming a star PF.

Its great to see Landry get some recognition. He's a joy to watch and brings so much enthusiasm to the game. I think there is a good case for him to start but I like him coming off of the bench to bring some energy to the second unit.

As for Lowry I remembered Adelman tried a few two guard sets with both Brooks and Lowry at times. I wouldn't mind seeing him trying some more of those.

These 2 guys have put us in positions to win numerous times all season. Cheers to our bench for practically out playing our starters, while our 2 highest players sit out. Great depth!

Hollinger bases it mostly off his PER. Chuck's PER is better than it's been the last couple years, but Hollinger (probably correctly) doesn't expect that to hold throughout the season.

I've seen it quite often this season, almost always when there is an opportunity to go small like that. Adelman likes it, and you'll continue to see it a lot.

After being a glaring weakness for years, we not only have one very good 4, but two. Great to see Carl getting some recognition!

the funny thing is that the PG and PF spots have been issues for years while the SG and C spots have been solid

now the PG and PF spots are solid while the C and SG spots are shaky this year

(Ariza not quite there yet though shown much improvement)

Lowry/Landry/Wafer...damn that was one potent offensive unit of our bench last year...probably the best I'm going to say, there were games where they would put 40 points up.

I like bud better than wafer though, he will be better in the long run as well

Lowry would start in front of AB if he could shoot. Lowvry, please work with a shooting coach to change your mechanics and put up 500 shots a day. U will be a starter soon my son.

Great find, Lowry and Landry are really good players. I think Scola and Brooks are too, but the reason they start over the other two is because when those guys are on, they are REALLY on. But when those guys are off, the other two shine BRIGHT. So if Scola or Brooks is on they will get most of the playing time that game, if they are off Landry or Lowry can come in and provide energy and spark the team. But when it comes to consistency I would have to say Lowry and Landry win that category. Those guys always go out there and give it their all and they play really aggressive which what makes them great.
