Heat shopping Miller in trade talks [rquoter]MIAMI -- The Heat clearly made their major moves last summer, but that hasn’t stopped them from being active on the trade market. According to multiple league executives, the Heat have floated Mike Miller in several different trade scenarios as they look to upgrade at the center or point guard positions. Miller missed his second straight game Tuesday when the Heat knocked off the Kings 117-87 out of precaution as he recovers from a head injury and an ear infection. Miller is the Heat’s most tradable asset, even though he’s in the first season of a five-year, $29 million contract he signed last summer and is averaging just 5.9 points on 41 percent shooting as he recovers from a hand injury that cost him the first two months of the season. One executive said the Heat have been calling around but just "don’t have much they can trade." This is literally true, as several of Miami's players who signed minimum contracts this summer -- such as Jamaal Magliore and Carlos Arroyo -- can’t be traded without their permission because they’d lose their Bird Rights. Two other players, Udonis Haslem and rookie Dexter Pittman, are both out recovering from surgeries. The only other significant asset the Heat have that would merit any interest is the Timberwolves’ 2011 second-round pick, which would be a sweetener at best. The Heat have been unsettled at center and point guard for much of the season as coach Erik Spoelstra has regularly changed his rotations -- as evidenced by Tuesday's decision to move Erick Dampier into the starter’s role at center for the first time. If the Heat are able to add a player, it will most likely come after a veteran has been bought out sometime in the next week. With 15 players on the roster, such a move would require the team to cut a player. [/rquoter]
I don't even see who would want him ha, but he had that monster game while Bosh and Wade were out if I remember right.
Finally realized that Joel Anthony, Erick Dampier, Jamaal Magloire, Mario Chalmers, and Carlos Arroyo won't cut it?! I don't think he'll be moved but we'll see.
Miami trying to trade Sh&t for gold. No one is gonna touch that contract. And they have no draft picks to sweeten the deal.
What would be the point of making this trade in the Rockets percpective? Fact is, there is no point. The Rockets are trying to trade for a center, so they trade one away?
Riley wouldn't be doing his job, if he wasn't trying to improve the team. Any player on any team is up for trade if the right deal comes around, its the way the NBA is.
It's funny how Morey gets constantly bashed by fans here about trading Ariza after promising him grand things. Miami with Miller, NY with Felton, and Denver with Harrington aren't even waiting that long before willing to unload them. Yes, other teams screw their FA signings too. At least Morey has the decency to wait a year before making the decision, and gave Ariza the benefit of the offseason to get himself settled into his new home. Morey's practically a freaking Players-GM compared to many others.
Mike Miller's contract is 5 years 29 million, not only will teams "touch that contract" they'd be willing to give something of value for it. At less than 6 mill per year, Miller would offer exceptional shooting/scoring at both small forward and shooting guard. A career 46% fg shooter and 40% from 3, Miller is also a good playmaker, ball handler and decent defender. The clearest trade for the Heat to make would be to send Miller(5m)/Anthony(3m) to the Clippers for Kaman, though making the salaries match would be difficult in this scenario... OR to Dallas for little used Brendan Haywood, who has a 6yr 55million contract (6.9 million this year). While trading for either would upgrade the Heat substantially at C, it would leave them thin at the wing position, with essentially only James Jones to back up Lebron and Wade, (eddie house is not an adequate backup at sg). As for trading Miller for a PG, the only proposal i had in mind was sending Mike Miller/Arroyo + cap fillers to Washington for Kirk Hinrich and the 2 yrs 18 million dollars left on his contract. perhaps Washington includes a 2nd round pick or two to even out the deal.
This is kinda bs though, players signing sweetheart deals to play for sure-fire championship contenders being shopped? Hopefully that catches up to the Heat and other teams that do that and we stop seeing random serviceable vets sign for way below their value.
or put in a no trade clause when he signed. Really surprised me, he had a monster year last season, that they were looking to move him.
I wonder if the "King" has requested this? He knows sidekicks that won't win when he sees them, and he even knows how to self-fulfill that prophecy (e.g. 9 turnovers.)
I think its a bad move to give up Miller if I am the Heat. If he's healthy come playoff time he will be a key complement to Wade and Lebron. He's a utility player yes, but he does everything from shoot lights out to handle the ball like a point guard, rebound, defend very well, and oh yeah... he can shoot. There is no point in getting a true point guard on this team anyways with Lebron on the floor, why not just keep shooters like Eddie House and James Jones on the floor with him? As for the center position, Im not really sure what they think they can get. If the Rockets cant get a quality center with all the assets they have, how in the world do they expect to find anything better than what they got?
