Source So what do you think of this? Do you give the guy the benefit of the doubt, and applaud his efforts to change? As much as I am a cynic about human nature, I truly do hope this is genuine.
I've met him a couple times before and I don't think he really ever hated gays or meant any harm......he's just really not all that bright and probably said whatever he thought would sound cool to his homies...
It's amazing how people can say Tim Hardaway isn't really homophobic. It's like when Bill Maher asked Chris Rock if he really thought Kramer was a racist. Chris Rock answers, "What do you have to do to be racist these days? Kill Medgar Evers?" Hardaway is as homophobic as they come. I hope the class helps him, but honestly I suspect he's just going through the motions in an attempt to get his job with the NBA back.
I agree, though the fact that he tried to keep it quiet for as long as he did would seem to indicate that he's sincerely trying to change his ways. Hopefully he'll be able to make amends with society and be remembered for his killer crossover and not his homophobic views.
if they say he's genuine about it, good for him.. was watching espn classic the other night, GS vs Lakers in the playoffs.. Run TMC vs the Lake Show Tim Hardaway was takin it to the Lakers.. Byron Scott was no match for him..killer crossover over n over n over..
he could have ducked his head and waited for it to blow over, but instead he faced it like a man. whether or not he still objects to homosexuality is almost a non issue. He is now acting like a human being.
Even if he's not sincere, there will now be one less high profile person generating hate against gays. That's a good thing.
I think he's simply trying to fix his image in hopes of maybe returning to the NBA. There's no way to downplay what he said.
The guy basically committed career suicide by making those inappropriate comments. There's really nowhere for him to go but up. This is the first step into that direction.
There's few things more inspiring to me than people who were mistreated showing grace to the one who mistreated them. That he was received so openly is awesome. And I'm guessing his feelings have been changed...because instead of living with stereotypes he's meeting real human beings.
I don't know. Sometimes knowledge can change one's view on things. Everyone holds wrong opinions or stereotypes on things they have no clue about. I don't know if Hardaway's geniune or not. I'm just saying there's no reason to automatically denounce him. At the very least, I hope this help him learn not to be stupid enough to say such offensive things in public. He can hate on the gays in his mind all he wants. But as long as he teaches tolerance for gays to the public, it still helps society in general.
Good for him. I don't think many of us would volutunteer at the YES Institute unless we had relatives or sexual questions ourselves. Whatever the reasons, they're his. Him being there is making a difference to the kids.
Hardaway could star in a gay porno flick to prove he is now open-minded. Then everyone would believe him.
