From ESPN.COM You have to hand it to the Rockets. They had three first-rounders when the evening began (Nos. 13, 18, 23), and somehow convinced the Nets to take all three for talented but angry big man Eddie Griffin, who went No. 7. Griffin has a temper, sure, but he slipped in this draft. The Rockets should be pretty happy with this shotblocker/rebounder. In Morris, acquired from Atlanta for a future pick, the Rockets get even more frontcourt depth, which is always good. Solid effort considering Houston didn't draft either guy. ------------------ I voted YES!
Okay, I have calmed down a bit in the meantime, but "solid effort" seems like an understatement to me. Also, it should have been A+, not A-.
A+ seems so a bit of an understatement. I like :"The Example by which all drafts past, present and future will be judged." ------------------
CONGRATS!!! Missed the chat/draft last nite but the Rox have hit a home run with Griffin (and Morris). Give CD, Rudy great credit...esp. when last year at this time we were calling them idiots for the "Collier debacle." They know this year's draft was the time/place to cash in. Also, I am not yet convinced that Collier won't work out...I really liked what I saw of him when he was healthy.
I think the "minus" part came from the steep price we paid: four first-rounders for Griffin and Morris. I'm happy with it because this was OUR OPPORTUNITY and when it makes that occasional visit to your door, you practically have to overpay for it. The pain is already gone. ------------------ "How far you go in life depends on you being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant of the weak. Because someday you will have been all of these."
I do not think the price was that steep. We traded three average to poor first rounders for a superstar and then traded a pick we probably get until 2007 for a good complementary player. I believe the price was not steep at all, which is what makes the move all the more incredible. ------------------
Goldenstate deserves a big fat A as well. The New jersey online mentioned that if Goldenstate would not have picked Jason Richardson, the Nets projected pick, this trade with the Rockets would have never happened. ------------------ A desirous Mo Taylor is better than a prude Chris Webber.
What I can't believe is the three average to poor 1st rounders were 'Jersey's picks. Wasn't there better options at the 13, 18 and 23. A lot of people other than myself thought Jefferson was a lottery pick, so I'm okay with that, but at 18, couldn't they have gotten Omar Cook or Jamal Tinsley? Then if Collier...er Collins wasn't there at 23, they could have gone for, I don't know, Loern Woods, Ken Johnson, maybe? Why did those guys drop to the forties anyway? j ------------------ Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb!
ESPN is pretty switched on; They list the Warriors picks as Jason Richardson Gilbert Arenas and give them a B rating (or something like that) - did Troy Murphy die on the way out of the stadium? They also rate the Bulls an A - considering they gave up their only player on the day I would think they'd need to draft MJ himself and his pal Larry to garner an A rating for their draft. ------------------
Obviously the GM's around the league see nothing in Loren Woods and Ken Johnson. Perhaps a 1-dimensional shot blocker isn't as valuable as either of those guys would like it to be.... whatever the case, the centers with a more well rounded game were favoured in this years draft. Collins has a pretty strong offensive game and was touted as the best center in his division and could reasonably stake a claim to have been one of the top centers in college last season. His offensive game is all about power and polish and many experts expected him to go straight after the lottery if his knee looked ok - obviously it did and he did. Collins should be no surprise that he went where he did, the ONLY thing that would've pushed him back was injury concerns! ------------------
Atleast the Chronicle gave the Rockets an A+. They know that Griffin will be a great fit with Francis and Mobley. We are set now at the 1,2,3, and possibly with the 4. IF Cato played like he should potential wise, we would be set at the starting 5 as well. However that is asking too much. ------------------ Stevierebel
Finally a bit of respect for a great draft. ------------------ "I may be mistaken, but I'm never wrong" -Barkley
I don't think the price was steep at all. Considering, that we may have gotten the most talented player in the draft, not the 7th most talented player. A+++++ ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? This deal isn't gonna make or break me Norm, so don't jerk me around." Harry Carey "Norm, if I had a mohawk scalp, I wouldn't be sitting here talking to you."
"angry?" The guy got in a fight and he's angry? Apparently, from everything I've read, he's extremely shy. ------------------ Things do not change; we change. - Henry David Thoreau
Yeah, whats up with that? The Bulls get an A+ for aquiring 2 high school kids and trading one of the top 3 players in the East? Sorry, but I think the Clippers deserve the Bulls A and add a plus to that for unloading Skinner's dead weight. ------------------ Anger is a weed. Hate is a tree.
