http://espn.go.com/nba/s/2002/0912/1430767.html Carroll Dawson is rated 11th, which I think is pretty accurate, considering he's made some questionable decisions. Mitch Kupchak at #9 is pretty interesting, considering he hasn't had to do much since Jerry West resigned. We'll see how good he is after Shaq retires in a couple of years... How Jim Paxon is NOT last after the boneheaded stuff he's done this offseason is beyond me...
Don--Kiki has only been in Denver for a year. He's trying to correct all the mistakes of his predecessors (and I think he's doing a pretty good job, actually). Remember, that poll is rating the GMs, not the franchises.
After Shaq retires he'll have to find a new coach also because Phil is quitting as soon as the horse is gone.
I think the rankings are very accurate, although I dont think there should be any doubt as to whether Cleveland's GM is last. He's terrible! I cant imagine what it's like being a Cavs fan.
Phil has always had the BEST player in the league that their time, on his team, I think he is the luckest coach in NBA history,
I personally think that Dawson should be at number one because he built one championship team and is in the process of building another only 7-10 years later. Not to get ahead of myself, but if the Rockets keep their under 26 roster intact they are definitely in the catbird seat in terms of future talent. Also the trades for Francis, Griffin and the fifteenth pick which turned out to be Boki were awesome. West sucked for a number of years and then finally got Shaq because Shaq wanted to be in Hollywood. Then Kobe demanded to be traded to the Lakers. How good of a GM does that take?
Hot dog again we agree...is there something to this Sofine I would like to see Phil record if he had to coach teams like Boston, NY , or Seattle I do not think he would have near the success if he didnt have 2 to 3 of the best players in the NBA at all times...
Arent we agreable tonight. Have I ever had a heated arguement with you on anything? I know I have with some people on here, but I never hold grudges lol. Its ture, I would have loved to have seen what Phil Jackson could have done without Jordan, Shaq, or Kobe...well like I said When he goes to the Hall Of Fame, for coaching, the section he should be in, is "Right Player, Right Time"
Laker fans have the worst case of homerism out of ANY other fans in the league. The Fakers will fall this year, I would love for it to be to OUR Rockets, but it will most likely be to the Kings! PS I base my argument from what LeGrouper said!
That is exactly what happened to John Gabriel in Orlando too. How hard is it to dump players and then sign FAs who WANT to be there? He is a brutal draft and talent evaluator. Also, how Bob Bass is above #20 is beyond me. The Hornets lost something like 40 free agents in a row and manage to piss off every player they have. My top 5 - in no particular order - would include Petrie, Walsh, Nelson, West (overall, not just with Memphis) and Baylor (its not his fault his owner is an idiot tightass). Guys like Dawson, Babcock, Grunwald, Dumars and Thorn would round out the top 10, IMO.
Maybe, maybe not. For the last 3 years I have heard, "Your Lakers are going to get beat by {insert your team's name here}". So forgive me if I don't sound too shaken. But back to the original topic. Jerry West has no equals in the GM world of today. Make all the ifs and buts you want, but the jewelry does not lie. How many times has West's teams not made the playoffs in his 20+ years? The man is a legend, plain and simple, don't get too insulted if someone says that your GM is not on par with Jerry West. No one is.
Did anyone read the Frank Hughes article on Why West is the Best? The entire article is explaining why he is the best GM because he acquired Earl Watson from a team who cut him. Frank Hughes - you are a Homobastard! What a tard patty... http://espn.go.com/nba/columns/hughes_frank/1430852.html
