From Marc Stein's Weekend Dime (link)

    ______________________________________________

Q: OK, seriously ... 5-0 without Yao Ming and 17 wins in a row. How are you guys doing this?

A: I really don't know how we've done it this long. It's a lot of games to win in a row. It really is. But it feels good to be part of history, be part of a good team and be part of a team [where] I don't really have to carry the load every night.

Q: This roll actually started when you were injured in January and there were a lot of questions about how you'd fit back in with this team. How hard was it to scale your game back to blend in?

A: It really wasn't. Not at all. I've told you before: I've already led this league in scoring. My biggest thing is I'm trying to advance in the playoffs. That's my whole agenda. I was willing to do whatever. Those guys were moving the ball and playing so well, I didn't want to come back and disrupt that or mess anything up. I didn't go back to dominating the ball. I sacrificed some of my game for the betterment of our team.

Q: But now you've lost Yao for the rest of the season, so doesn't the style of play have to change again?

A: With Yao we're more of a slower team. It's no knock on Yao, but sometimes we're a lot better defensive team when we have Dikembe out there because that's really what Deke brings to us. He brings that presence, that intimidating factor back there in the back. When teams sometimes go small, Deke is mobile and he's a great shot-blocker. Offensively we're just more up-tempo, spreading the offense out, the paint's not clogged up and that's how we're playing.

Q: You know you'll hear questions about your playoff history until you get out of the first round. But are you saying that this is the Rocket team that can do it, even without Yao?

A: Absolutely. Absolutely. We all believe that. We are a good basketball team. People are still not giving us credit and that's fine and dandy. But we know we still have to prove that in the playoffs. I know that really hasn't been our thing in the past. We got to the playoffs and didn't advance. It's something we still have to prove. But that would be a hell of an accomplishment to do that without your best player.

Q: Things have changed pretty drastically around this team. As recently as January there was all sorts of speculation that the Rockets were looking to trade you. Did you think you'd still be a Rocket after the trade deadline?

A: It was rumors. I have a great relationship with the ownership here, so it was nothing I was ever concerned about. Not even a little bit.

No one is expecting us to do much in the playoffs, remember every single media outlet predicted we'll miss the playoffs and so far so good without Yao. Our guys are playing with all the confidence in the world right now

I am a Chinese Rox fan. I have to admit that part TMAC commenting on Yao is totally right. TRADE YAO! Or send Yao back to CHINA. YAO can never fit in NBA!

Eventually someone will bash him for saying what he said about Yao ... just a matter of time but what he said is true. We are playing a different style with Yao out. We ar eplaying the fast break push the ball offense. That means we will allow more points but score more too. With Yao we play slow halfcourt games and dominate defensive stats. With him out we play fast full court games and dominate offensive stats. Both are working and its impossible to say which way is better. That is pretty much what T-Mac was saying.

On a side note I joined Clutchfans right after Y O F stuff went down. I remember seeing a few threads of people complaining about the people who use it and two weeks later it was banned. However I still can't figure out what it stands for. I garner from the tone I have seen it in it is a negative abbrev. about Yao. Someone care to explain. Maybe send it in message since its probably banned for a reason and you wouldn't be able to write what it means here without being censored.

Guess TMAC really enjoy current style (without Yao). Deke can give better D. There's no place for Yao in this TEAM. He need to go.

I disagree Tmac's comments on Yao.

However, I do think this is a positive attitude towards life!

Yao cannot play for the rest of season. Tmac needs to convince himself that the rockets can win without Yao.

 I thought he's telling the truth. Let's get rid of Yao. TMAC is a great baller. He's professional. What he said must be 100% true!

Marc Stein's schedule break down is more interesting than the interview. According to him, we have a 21-10 record against remaining competition to be faced (21 games). If we can match that winning % for the remaining games, we'll end up at 55 wins. I'll take that.

What did T-Mac say he hasn't already or that's outrageously stupid?

Unless he asked for this interview, it's not his fault? He didn't call a press conference to talk about the team's new up-tempo style and the mobility with Deke or even that he didn't think he'd be traded.

I don't see what he did wrong. No 'It's on me' or 'It's feels good to be in the second round' or 'I will make Stro an All-Star', etc. etc. etc.

"It's no knock on Yao, but sometimes we're a lot better defensive team when we have Dikembe out there because that's really what Deke brings to us"

sometimes; –adverb, on some occasions; at times; now and then.

As I said, Tmac is trying to convince himself that the rockets can win without Yao, and I think that is a right thing for him to do. Life must go on!

Oh my god, the exact same things I said in my thread. I got crucified for saying the paint was no longer clogged up because JVG said it wasn't. I also like how Tracy said "No Knock on Yao". It isn't a knock on Yao, it is just the truth, it is what it is.
