http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/story?columnist=stein_marc&id=2147720 nuff said good choice, IMO. Miami maybe has too many players at this point to be attractive. I'm convinced that if the Walker trade didn't happen, he'd be there. 2 thoughts: Cuban's gotta be steamed. Barry's officially on the block at this point. Evan
Wow. I never understood why free agents, during Chicago and Los Angeles' runs, never tried to sign with the Bulls or Lakers. Sure, the money wasn't there, but it's a chance (a damn-good chance) to win a championship. As an athlete, there should be no greater thrill. Now, we'll hear the same message board drivel that accompanied Malone and Payton's deals with the Lakers in 2003. How they're "riding the coattails" and things like that. Bollocks. You get to win it all. You get to be on a team that, 1-15, has its sights set on the ring because it doesn't know any better. There's no goofing around, there's no agendas, there's just sacrifice and winning. We know Cuban offered to stagger his payments in a way that would make Fin a lot richer a lot sooner if he went to the Eastern Conference, and we know Miami was offering its full MLE. Instead, Finley decided to play with the best team in the NBA, and cost himself millions. That's awesome.
Miami was offering their full MLE, and Mark Cuban was offering to stagger his payments. Just because Finley would have had to give back half of that MLE to the Mavs, it doesn't mean it wasn't offered.
Well it shuldn't bother us as Rockets fans too much. We knew we weren't going to be able to keep up with the Spurs with their current lineup and now we are surely going to have problems facing them as well as the rest of the league. Now if he went to a team that would directly be effecting us lets say in the playoffs and stuff and they are a border line team and Finely would have made them better than i would be worrying more.
Knocking the Spurs off the top of the mountain just got a little harder. If they had a weakness it was their shallow bench and lack of a consistent outside shooter besides Big Shot Bob.
Finley's going to make 51MM from another team while being able to play for another and still get paid by the current employer. What's so noble about that? If the guy didn't sign with a contender he would have been an idiot. Its nothing like previous situations, I don't care how soon Cuban agreed to pay him. Its a no-brainer. Plus how much is Finley gonna get?
I'm interested to see where they send Barry. Buford doesn't trade much, unless he's ripping someone off ("Isiah on line 2 ..."), so I'm curious as to how he's going to turn Barry into the next backup PF.
I didn't say it was noble, I'm saying the "bandwagon" cries that surrounded the Malone/Payton signings are absolute bollocks, and to prepare for them. San Antonio was offering their 2.5, so I'm assuming that's what he signed for. PHX only had 1.1., but they did have a starting slot and more shots.
Yes, it should bother us because we will have to pass Spurs in order to reach NBA finals and get the trophy. Maybe it doesn't make much a difference this year but down the road when we are really ready to win it all it will matter. **** Karla for starting this crap.
definitely the 4 seed now. now way are we going to have a better record than the spurs, that's just reality. but i'm glad fin decided to stay in the state and shove it in cuban's face...great move.
I know people complain about our team's age, but we need to get Payton in here BADLY. San Antonio is unstoppable right now. . .
I hate that the Spurs got a guy that still can put up numbers for 3/4 of a season for atleast 1 more year, but I'm even more happy that Mark Cuban has to try to explain to his fans what he was thinking trying to save money when he is known as the "BIG SPENDER".. I hate the Spurs, but I hate MARK CUBAN MORE!!
