I remember really disliking Shane Battier when he was at Duke, simply because he played for Duke. But listening to his interviews and his professional attitude toward playing basketball its pretty damn silly not to like the guy. I am glad he is on our team.
I noticed he was pounding the bench with his fist on a timeout in frustration when the Knicks were staging their failed comeback last game. Nice to see he isn't so professional all the time. We could use a little more of that.
I think Shane is smart enough to see that this team needs a vocal leader, and it will probably fall to him. I wish it were Yao, he is the best player, but he defers too much..... I want him to DEMAND the ball......and punish the other team, but I will be happy with 25 and 10. DD
Damn right, he was happy Memphis traded him and he gets to play with a real team and 2 superstars now.
I am from North Carolina so I ALWAYS follow both Duke and UNC and so I've watch Battier's game for years and I was happy about the trade because he's a solid player that hustles each night. I do want to see him look for more on the offensive end and rebound more because we're going to need him to do that. He is capable of 6-7 boards per game along with solid D and 10-12 per night. He's played a lot of big pressure-filled games already (college level) and the past few years (playoffs) in Memphis so he'll be ready in May & June to help this team.
Ditto, I saw that also, and was thinking to myself , we got a winner. I love to see that competitiveness and fire in a player once in a while. We don't want to see him pounding the benh too often, because that means he's getting beat and frustrated too many times
I didn't know much about Shane before but reading this interview, he comes across as pretty smart, pretty realistic, no BS. I'm a fan.
Shane is one cool player. I wouldn't miond if he retired a Rocket and eventually joined our coaching staff someday. He'd be good at it. He's more likely to get into commentating though.
Actually he was one of the few at Duke I actually respected. He wasn't a show off and was more a support player. As a UK fan typically I am of the mindset the only good thing about DUKE is the UK in the middle. But he was one of the few I have watched at that school and respected. When the trade was made I was really glad to see Stromile go and get a support player like Battier. He is definately going to be one of the key's to success for this team.
probably not.. I seriously think the guy should go into politics when he retires... President Shane Battier.. and I don't even know what his viewpoint is! LOL
