NEW YORK -- Brian Cushing has become the second Houston Texans linebacker in four seasons to win The Associated Press NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award. The tackling machine from USC, drafted 15th overall last April, is a runaway winner in balloting by a nationwide panel of 50 sportswriters and broadcasters who cover the league. Cushing received 39 votes, easily beating Buffalo safety Jairus Byrd, who had six. Texans linebacker DeMeco Ryans won the award in 2006. Cushing is the seventh straight linebacker voted top defensive rookie and the ninth in 10 years. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4797623
Awesome. No surprise there. I'm just glad it wasn't up to the fans cause he probably would've ended up fourth. Congrats to the monster. Can't wait for next year.
Congrats to Mr. Cushing! I will now eat my plate of crow as I was very down on the Texans drafting him. I thought he and the other USC lb's were all overrated. Shows what I know as all 3 of them turned out to be better than advertised.
Got to give him credit - he was way better than he was in college and better than I thought he would be. Whizzinator FTW
So, do the same people that evaluate the talent at LB evaluate the talent in the draft at DT and CB? If so then they are doing a fantastic job drafting linebackers but need a little more help with all the other positions, besides Mario Williams of course which to them was a no brainer.
Oh and much credit to the coaching staff for finding this kid and making a nice pick with a mid 1st rounder. Cushing deserves a lot of credit after missing almost all of training camp and still playing at a pro bowl level in his 1st season. 5 stars!
The guy is an all-world athlete. We found such a stud with this guy. He has no weaknesses, from pass coverage to pass rushing to getting to the ball. Congrats to him!
I guess there not Drafting TOO TOO Bad I guess the third linebacker is the Texans 2nd round pick then you set there for years Rocket River
