The Rockets have resisted the urge to pursue Latrell Sprewell (right) -- so far. They might be forced to revisit that stance even if Tracy McGrady can shake his latest back injury and the knee troubles that have plagued him with pain since training camp began, after what by all accounts was McGrady's most serious summer of off-season preparations.

Without McGrady, and with Yao Ming still prone to fade in the second half, Houston hasn't been able to crack 85 points and can't score in the fourth quarter. The Rockets, early as it for firm conclusions, appear to lack self-belief without both of their franchise players on the floor and don't have a clear-cut No. 3 scoring option even at full strength. If Sprewell backs off his demand for a two-year deal, he's undoubtedly the best available option for the Rockets, given Jeff Van Gundy's unwavering status as a huge Spree fan. ...

So painfully obvious, lets sign him. To be able to sign a guy that wanted a 20M extension last year to sign for the min is a bargain. I would even consider signing him for 2 years if thats what it took. Spree will wind up somewhere, I want him here.

I don't want him to sign with the Spurs, and we WILL need a defensive guy like him to come in with the second unit and make stops on the likes of Mike Finely.

IMO, we need ALL the depth we can get, especially with San Antonio and Miami being so damn deep...

I'm all for replacing Glover with Sprewell. Don't know if Sprewell will be all for that though...

The question is the luxery cap implications. I don't have the exact #'s be we were over the luxery cap before we waived Spoon. Then didn't we sign Anderson after that and Glover after that. Considering we don't know exactly what the limit is until AFTER the season, Alexander may not want to chance signing Spree if that puts us too close.

If we can get him for cheap then I am all for it. I'd even consider him starting on the wings instead of using DA. I actually do believe that Latrell might be the player we wanted D.A. to be for us. If he came cheap and JVG can control his sometimes eratic ways then let's get him on board. I really don't think we have much to lose at this point. I am starting to believe the articles stating that our acquisitions this summer were a bunch of fools gold.
