The Blazers, according to sources, are also expected to release guard Nick Van Exel on Wednesday, making Van Exel and Anderson unrestricted free agents.

The Dallas Mavericks, San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets and Miami Heat are among the playoff contenders expected to pursue Van Exel, a former All-Star who has said in the past that he hopes to finish his career with a team in Texas -- and a team with title aspirations.

I see the upside here with NVE,but also see downside risk.He seems like he's lost a step over the last few years, and with his game, this is a big deal. Can he rein in his game and be a structured, role player too?At the LLE,I guess we can't complain.

Heck, I wouldn't mind getting Derek Anderson (the quote about NVE is pulled from the article about Anderson being the first amnesty rule cut). Remember, Anderson played some PG in a big-guard lineup before in Portland. He would give us the size in the backcourt we need. T-Mac will have the ball in his hands a lot of the time. Sura has ably manned the PG position with his ability to penetrate and dish. James is the quick, change-of-pace PG we need off the bench. If we could get Anderson for the LLE, I would be pleased.

Hmm...I'd much rather us be going after Anderson instead of Van Excel. He's probably looking for more than the LLE though. We could really use someone with more height to guard the bigger two guards. I love Wesley but he just can't get it done against guys like Stack.

he can't guard anyone but he can still pass and shoot.

if we signed him, he would probably backup sura. I would like to find a starter for the LLE. as crazy at it sounds, payton, spree, and buckner would all start for us and probably for the LLE.

Are you assuming James will be traded?

    I agree,
I,too would much rather have Anderson.Like you said DA brings it on the defensive end and this is a guy that's been injured, and in a bad situation.I like his upside. At the very least,a nice role player on a title team.

NVE is a versatile player, must be a good addition to the team. As long as he refrain from firing his tresys from 3 feet behind the arc.

We are starting to see a familar pattern here, guys.

Any FA, trade possibility, acquisition, and so on mentioned by the media always includes the same teams interested: Hou, Mia, SA, NJ, LA, Cle.....

I don't believe these teams can pick up everybody...are the other teams doing anything, or even trying, or just giving up...

Guess it's great to be a Rocket fan........everyday a new rumor...

Only LLE and play him a back up or a insurance in case one of the guards go down. He is going to take away Tmac and Yao's shots if we play him same time on the court with these two. He can be an offense off the bench though.

If our 2nd unit look like this

    NVE
    MJ
    Bowen
    Howard
    Deke

    It's pretty decent. That's a better team than the Hornet's or Hawk's 1st unit. :D

I hope we can end up with Derek Anderson on the cheap.

Is DA also waived? I thought only one player can be waived by the Allan Houston's rule.

Blazers had an option on Van Exel, who I believe agreed to having the last year changed from a guaranteed year to an option one when he got traded to the Mavericks a few years ago.

Mike James and NVE are similar players. Only Mike James is better.

I wouldnt be surprised if DA is the Rockets starting SG next season. He is still young and very athletic, and he's taller than Wesley, and will probably come cheap, and he said last year he was hoping to be dealt to the Rockets when we played them in Portland. With DA, Swift, Head, we will definitely have accomplished getting younger and more athletic......and we would still have ALL of our expiring contracts left.....
