Free agent center Nazr Mohammed of the Spurs has agreed to a deal with the Detroit Pistons, ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher is reporting.

Terms were unavailable. Mohammed replaces Ben Wallace, who told the team Monday that he was leaving to join the Chicago Bulls.

Wallace, who agreed to a four-year, $60 million deal with Chicago, helped Detroit advance to four straight conference finals -- the first team to do so since the Bulls of the early 1990s.

Mohammed played in 80 games for San Antonio last season, averaging 6.2 points and 5.2 rebounds.

Looks like now that Joel Przybilla will sign with the Spurs.

this offseason is moving at the speed of light...completely opposite of the 2004 Summer where they talked about trades/fa deals for weeks before anything happend.

Interesting! All signs pointed to Prizbilla going to Detroit...I guess he waited too long and they went with Nzar. Good signing for Detroit.

The best news from this signing- assuming they used the MLE- is that Bonzi will not go to Pistons ( without a Sign and Trade)- that means technically we have a shot. With Harpring gone - Bonzi should be out first option at the Starting SG job.

The deal is for a five-years, $30 million.

Another example of a player who turned down a lucrative contract last summer to get less this summer.

Has anybody read anything yet that has indicated the Rockets ever contacted either Harpring or Bonzi? I haven't. It looks to me like Mike James is the target.

Either the management thinks we have no chance of getting Wells or they think he is too much trouble. I don't remember the thread which clearly stated T-Mac saying that Bonzi and James were being looked at by the Rockets.

Nice highlights but I don't think the NBA will be quite the dunkfest for him.

Using Google here is what I found:

    Age 25. 6'11. 210 lbs

Averaged 27 mins/9.6 pts/7.4 rebs per game. 56% FG, 41% FT (a perfect fit on the Spurs ;) ). He was 1/4 all last season from 3pt.

Conclusion: This guy obviously isn't ready to be a starting NBA center. He would be used and abused. Methinks the Spurs will sign a proven player to be their starting center or will move TD over to the pivot. The thought of TD trying to guard Yao makes me drool in anticipation.

Timmy will probably end up as their center. Certainly he's capable of playing the position.

I find it pretty amusing that TD has tried to duck that position his whole career and now he has to play it....right when Yao has begun to turn into a monster.

Quite athletic for a Euro center. If he gets significant minutes, I can see him battling Dalembert for most goaltending calls every year.

Come on. It's a huge leap in size and athleticism when you hit the NBA. This guy looks good on highlights, but once he steps into the league, he's sporting at best above average explosiveness, and what looks like average length. That doesn't add up to leading the league in goaltends IMO.

Have you looked at the centers around the league lately? Most of them couldn't put together a highlight reel like this against any competition. Big Z, Chris Kaman, and Erick Dampier couldn't out-run or out-jump a bunch of Euroleague players. This guy steps in among the more athletic post players. I'll reserve judgment on him being more valuable than DJ Mbenga until I see him on the NBA court.

Who cares whether he's more athletic than Big Z, Kaman or Dampier. Are any of those guys among the leaders in shot blocks? This guy is 6'10" and doesn't look like he's got particularly long arms. So he's about the size of the average NBA PF. Put him up against NBA 4's and he has above average athleticism at best (and probably closer to average than above). And speaking of highlight reels, Stromile's reel has a ton of nasty blocks on it, and what does that prove.
