ESPN.com: Jack Ramsey Chat - Amare for ROY, Rockets won't make playoffs

    http://proxy.espn.go.com/chat/chatESPN?event_id=2967

TSAI: does houston have the personnel to make it out of the west?

Dr. Jack Ramsay: Not this year...but if Yao Ming continues to improve...and I think he will...their future is very good.

Rob(phoenix): What do you think about the Suns? How about Stoudomire for ROY? Seems to be that way now with Yao in a close 2nd.

Dr. Jack Ramsay: Now here's a surprise team! I didn't think they had a chance for the record they have...21-13 today...good coaching from Frank Johnson; and Stoudemire is my pick for ROY. He'll get better yet as this season progresses; and Stephon is playing great team ball. Nice to see.

He doesn't say that they won't make the playoffs, he says the won't make the finals.

It will be interesting to see how accurate an insightful prediction from a quasi-80-yrs-old Hoop Guru. Not to take anything out of a Hall of famer with a Doctorate degree from Upen, his overall winning percentage was not very high though.

Never EVER listien to Ramsey! This is the guy who said the Sonics were gonna come back and beat the MJ in his prime-lead Bulls after the Sonics got the series to a 3-2 defecit. How he could go on national TV and say MJ would allow a travesty like that to take place when he was physically and psychologically dominat over every other player on the planet was beyond me. Of course the Sonics lost the next game and I have never listiened to a word that man have said.

I'm not too keen on bandwagoners. True, true, Dr. Jack hasn't recognized anyone for a few years; but the habit of claiming somebody will be ROY based on a couple of games is premature. I didn't even do that after Yao destroyed Duncan and Robinson, VIRTUALLY LOCKING YAO IN AS THE 2002-03 R.O.Y.! WOO-HOO!

*ahem* I'm better now. Non-homers, proceed.

It seems its very fashionable to pick Amare over Yao for rookie of the year now. Hey, tony kornheiser did it, along with sean elliot, tim legler, and doctor jack. Only Michael Wilbon said it's still Yao. Just shows how far our culture has fallen, choosing the flashy, one-dimensional dunker over the graceful complete player that is Yao.

    Amare's getting noticed alright. Proof?

May I present his numbers for the last 3 games:
Min FG% PPG RPG APG BPG TO
    3 games 29.7 35% 9.0 6.7 0.67 0.33 4.0
    Previous
    3 games 38.7 60% 25.0 11.0 1.0 1.67 2.3

    Season 30.3 46% 12.3 8.8 0.80 1.10 2.2

    Interpretation
The previous 3 games were taken from his breakout game and 2 games after. What this clearly shows is that other teams defenses have started to hone in on Amare as they have on Yao for the past few weeks (ever since his streak of 70% shooting games). From now on out, Amare would not find things so smooth flowing anymore.

This is especially reflected in his terrible FG%. However, having said that, Amare will be a star the magnitude of which is hard for us to comprehend... just like Yao. He is an unprecedented talent from HS. Let us just sit back and enjoy watching the two of them mature. And be glad that Phoenix is not in our division.

Why does it matter if Phoenix is in our division? I'm pissed off they're in our conference.

Don't worry about the Suns. I firmly believe our core (Yao, Francis, Griffin) are better and have more potential than theirs (Marion, Marbury, Stoudemire). Plus traditionally great centers win championships while great PFs never win championships without great center teammates.

that's a great read, thanks. the author got Yao's stats against the Lakers wrong, though.
