Two problems Houston didn't expect: Grizzlies, Clippers
That theory about team meetings and how they never work? The Houston Rockets just proved it in the worst possible fashion.

Steve Francis and Glen Rice convened a players-only dialogue in the midst of a hot streak in which Houston won three of four -- comfortable victories over San Antonio, Philadelphia and Sacramento, with only a two-point overtime loss at New Orleans mixed in. The Rockets duly emerged from the chat to drop the first two games of a much cushier three-game stretch: Memphis away, home to Clippers, at Miami.

The loss to the Clips ended Houston's seven-game home winning streak, narrowly halted a run of five straight double-doubles from Yao Ming and, worst of all, yanked the Rockets back down a peg or three just as they were establishing themselves as the biggest West surprise. At this very moment, excluding the Lakers' shockingly bad start, that's Phoenix.

Don't fret too much about Yao, though. His 16 points and nine boards against the Clips left everybody's Rookie of the Year favorite averaging 17.1 points, 12.4 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in December. Plus, the first batch of All-Star voting returns are due out Thursday, which should confirm the widely held suspicion that Internet votes from China will make Yao the West's starter at center on Feb. 9.

Any predictions on who will be the early leaders for the East and the West teams on the first all star ballot returns? Will Yao lead over Shaq in votes? Should be interesting!

I do wonder what was said at the player meetings...

Steve: "Yao, we know you're tired. I talked to your mom the other day and she told me you were tired."

Yao: "When did you talk to her? And she doesn't know English so how did you understand her?"

Steve: "Well, I didn't understand what she was saying but I'm a darn good charades player and I understood her body language. She kept pointing at me and yelling at me. Then, she grabbed a bball, pointed at you, and did a chest-pass motion towards you. It took me awhile but I realized...she was trying to tell me that you're tired of getting the ball in the post!!"

    Yao: "But I'm not tired..."

Steve: "What'd you say Yao...darn I didn't quite understand that...where's Colin when you need him"

Yao: "You said this is players only meeting...you wouldn't let Colin in."

Glen: "If Yao's tired of the post, who's gonna fill in?? Kenny?"

    Kenny: "I don't post up."

    Glen: "Eddie??"

Eddie: "I don't know how to post up!"

Glen: "All right...as the veteran leader of this club, I'll take on the pressure as the first post option. Don't worry guys, people are posting me up all the time so I'll just imitate them."

    Yao: "GUYS...I'm not tired!!"

Steve: "Huh, what'd you say Yao? Well, whatever you tried to say, don't worry about it. I know what I'm talking about. Heck, I'm the guy who led the team with the best record to not make the playoffs. I am a bona-fide legend in these parts. Besides, we're playing the Clips and Grizzlies. Just leave it to me on offense. And don't worry Yao...I'm a little tired too...I'll get my rest on defense."

Can't stop what never started. Ming got something around three set plays the whole night, most of his shots were offensive put-back. Guess Steve thought Ming was "tired", and needed the "rest". :p :D
