Peter (Houston): Do you think that the Rockets would (or should) trade Mobley? They already have one guard (Francis) that requires a lot of touches in the game, and they have a good center that they can move the ball through in the half court. Would it be good for them to trade Mobley for a good spot up shooter or another big forward?

David Aldridge: (2:23 PM ET ) If they didn't like Eddie Griffin so much, I would agree with you. But the Rockets think Griffin is going to be a big-time player at both ends of the court. I wouldn't move Cat for just a spot-up guy. They should be able to get someone like that (like a Piatkowski, for instance) in the summer with their mid-level exception.

    Whaddya guys think?

to me it seems like what he meant is that the rocks wont trade mobley for a pf because they like EG so much, not that they should package them both.

DA is only good with trade rumours. Listening to him in order to get good/educative reports is a waste of time IMHO.

I actually think he is pretty much spot on. Many people on this board probably think we should trade Cat for Wesley Person (totally undervalue Cat relative to most SGs in the league). Cat is not a bad player and would really help a lot of teams, but with an outstanding shoot first PG and with a young center with the offensive skills he has it just may not work out here.

So if the Rocks have decided to throw Griffin to the fire, then...

the Rocks still need a well-rounded, offensively solid SF!

    Why?

I can't necessarily disagree with their approach with Griffin (there's no better teacher than experience), but if you're going to go with Griffin (who's just not ready offensively), you still need a consistent scorer in the frontcourt to keep defenses from collapsing on Yao (Utah did quite a bit of that late last night) or zoning up the Gs. Consider:

Posey - more of a specialist, would be perfect if Griffin were more consistent.
    Boki & TMo - not ready...yet.
Rice - better days are behind him, not healthy enough.

The problem, however, is that there just aren't many available swingmen that fill the role.

Mike Miller? Maybe, but could be a little expensive (Cato &\or MoT, for starters, maybe Mobley), and isn't all that consistent, either.
Glenn Robinson? Oh no, not another player who needs the ball to be effective!
Latrell Sprewell? Um, no thanks. See G. Robinson + older - 2 inches\20 lbs.
Vince Carter? 1) Pipe dream (stock has dropped considerably, however), 2) See G. Robinson, 3) Max contract, 4) Package including Mobley & Griffin at the very least, which destroys the thought of Griffin as the future PF for the Rocks.
    Lamar Odom? See V. Carter - #2 & #3.

I don't think all the offensive problems revolve around Yao not getting enough touches or the play of the backcourt, the Rocks are still short a scorer\shooter or 2.

Houston trades: SG Cuttino Mobley (18.0 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 3.0 apg in 41.7 minutes)
PF Eddie Griffin (8.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.1 apg in 24.8 minutes)
Houston receives: PF Elton Brand (18.3 ppg, 11.4 rpg, 2.4 apg in 40.0 minutes)
SG Eric Piatkowski (9.3 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 1.4 apg in 23.2 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +1.0 ppg, +3.8 rpg, and -0.3 apg.

L.A. Clippers trades: PF Elton Brand (18.3 ppg, 11.4 rpg, 2.4 apg in 40.0 minutes)
SG Eric Piatkowski (9.3 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 1.4 apg in 23.2 minutes)
L.A. Clippers receives: SG Cuttino Mobley (18.0 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 3.0 apg in 41 games)
PF Eddie Griffin (8.6 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 1.1 apg in 45 games)
Change in team outlook: -1.0 ppg, -3.8 rpg, and +0.3 apg.

    TRADE ACCEPTED

Due to Houston and L.A. Clippers being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston and L.A. Clippers had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement

Well, DD, I'd love a nice trade like that, but somehow, even the Clippers might play hardball, despite the fact that Brand has no long-term future with the team.

Cuttino + EG for Andre Miller (same situation as Brand) and Chris Wilcox would probably be a fairer trade. Wilcox is thin but strong, and prob'ly a li'l more fierce than EG.

But OP said we won't trade with the Clips, so... (*cyberspace shrug*)

I doubt Aldridge is a vehement Rockets fan. Hes too busy watching other teams and listening to other people's opinions. If he has seen the ways the Rockets play lately, I think he would think otherwise.

Oeilpere said no trade with the Clippers. Of course, maybe in a lopsided trade like we've been mentioning, the Rockets would do it. but no serious deals with the Clipps.

Tell me, what's the reasoning behind not making a deal with the Clippers? For the players we're offering, only Mobley will make an immediate impact and the rest are future. What's the fear?

Mobley is playing poorly but he is a versatile player. He should not be traded away for a one dimentional type of player.

Adding Griffin to the trade mix enhances Mobley's trade value, if its him alone they aint gonna be too many takers ...........

Hey, the title of this thread is misleading. No it is completely off.

In his reply, Aldridge is clearly saying that the Rockets like EG's upside and thus aren't needing a power forward. Further, he says that the Rox don't need to trade Cuttino for a spot up shooter as they should be able to get one in the off-season for by using the MLE. He never says Cat should be traded at all.

This thread is going nowhere. I'm out.
