    End of an Era? The last bad apple from the Jailblazers will be gone. One thing had me interested though;

No sane GM would ever burn a bridge like this, but considering Portland has stolen Houston's guy in the draft for two consecutive seasons (B. Roy, R. Fernandez), the irrational fanatic in me wants to see Darius Miles in Rockets camp next year for the min; playing 1 minute for 10 games, then immediately getting waived, just to make sure that Portland picks up the full bill for his contract. Hell, he could bring a blunt onto the court if he wanted to; play no defense, just be there and stick it to PDX.

Usually I'm all about the CBA and loopholes like this, but I'm not feeling up to researching the rule for medical waivers; there must be some way to prevent this kind of loophole...

How about we sign Miles to a 2-year deal, play him the first 9 games next season and then call Portland to talk trade.

"Yeah, might want to send Rudy over here..."

Only if Daryl Morey puts cotton balls in his mouth and says, "I've got an offer you can't refuse..."

Any smart WC GM will sign Miles for a one year non-guarantee minimum contract and they will play Miles in 10 games then waive Miles. The Blazers cap space will be screwed for 2 more years. Just cant allow the Blazers to get extra FA help.

I'm definately on board with this! Anything to hurt them cause they are going to be good and they are all young. Doesn't even have to be us that does it; I would hate to lose a good player cause we had to cut him to achieve this. The Sonics could do one last thing to piss off their rival even if they are in OKC.
Assuming Portland's smart enough to not let Aldgridge, Roy and Oden go. Putting Miles salary back on them could potentially make them lose Webster, Outlaw, Jack, Blake, Przybilla or Frye through FA. One maybe even two, which would be huge. One can be replaced if they still have their pick, most likely 13th, in this years draft. Please Sonics do this!

Miles is in the top 10 in players with hype and skill in the past 10 years that never amounted to anything in the league a #3 pick out of high school, I guess his rookie cards will make good coasters. What a shame.

Actually, I'm CERTAIN someone would do this. And it wouldn't burn any bridges. It would just be the smart thing to do.

Does Miles still have something left? Isn't he at least a decent defender with somewhat of a jumpshot? That should be enough for him to be a benchwarmer at least.

    ROFL!!

but seriously guys, i'm pretty certain that the blazers aren't doing this expecting to not have to pay his salary. they know he'll get scooped up.

basketball career-ending. let's keep things in perspective. 25, did something he loved, and made a boatload of money doing it. he's a success in my book.

Seconded. Showing up to practice everyday hungover wreaking of booze, gaining 100 pounds and blowing up to recognizability, among other things... this guy really loved basketball.

i think you're exaggerating just a tad, but i think it's safe to say he was doing what he wanted to do for a living.

nobody's perfect. the guy was young and dumb. let's see what he does with the rest of his life before we make judgments. not that its our place to judge how other people live their lives anyway.

it sure has gotta be weird being in the public eye and having millions of people who you dont know worldwide trashing and judging your every move. comes with the territory i guess. how weird would it be if you had thousands and thousands of people hating on you for showing up an hour late to work one day? lol

I think that was taken about a year ago. With his work ethic, love for partying and money he already has I can't imagine him being in shape or looking much different than in that picture.

Such a shame. This kid had all the tools to be a great player. Too bad he didn't love the game of basketball as much as he does the NBA lifestyle.
