http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/spring2008/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&id=3243063 This day is tied with the first Rockets preseason as my favorite day of the year. Let's get off Clemens and talk some BASEBALL. Astros mentioned. Too long to post.

I like baseball and all, but "at long last"??? Counting spring training, baseball now runs from mid February through mid October. 8 months. The title should be: "Back already..."
World Series - late October. Spring Training - mid February. ~ 3.5 months. NBA Finals - late June. Training Camp - mid October. ~ 3.5 months.
At lloooooooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggg last indeed. No baseball sucks. Football's fun and basketball's nice and all, but no baseball just sucks.
What else are you going to do over the summer? And, unlike other sports, the baseball season HAS to be long in order to separate the truly good teams from the flukes. Of course after all that, they decide who the champion is in little 5 and 7 game series... which wouldn't be so bad if they didn't have the wild card. Back in the day of only 4 playoff teams, it eliminated that wild card "catching fire" factor simply because it was so freakin hard to make the playoffs.
Made the pilgramige down to kissimmee last year... wish I was going again this year (it was that much fun). For anybody who is going, be sure to check out La Forchetta... and don't be suprised if you run into several Astros there (just don't act like an idiot and try to talk with them while they're eating with their families).
If you like the baseball season being so long, then there is no complaining about the NBA season....as that is only half as long. DD
Its half the games... because you can't play basketball vitrtually everyday like you do baseball... but the season is still very long. Also, you don't need 82 games to separate the good from the bad... especially since more teams make the playoffs than not, making the playoffs pretty much the only thing that matters. The NBA does have the biggest disparity between regular season interest and playoff interest of all the major sports... but a lot of that has to do with the fact that the regular season interest in the NBA is so low (whereas its pretty high in the NFL, and continues to grow every season in baseball in terms of attendance/revenues).
