The Astros should be in sale mode.

WTF? Randy Wolf is a free agent this offseason. The Astros are in 5th place - and the top three teams in the NL are in their own division. What's the point?

Wow. We're looking to "acquire" veteran pitching who becomes a free agent after this season? The Astros are getting more puzzling by the day. We need PROSPECTS or YOUNG PLAYERS. Looks like its going to be a while till the Stros are going to be in contention again.

The funny thing is: we don't have any prospects or young players to give them because our farm system is crap.

Yea I totally agree... Astros should be in sell mode.... I'd say get as much as u can for Oswalt... Look at what Oakland got for Blanton!... I'd say Roy would be worth one good young solid mlb ready prospect, a high A ball prospect, and maybe two low A prospects. I would go ahead and just trade Tejada too.. The whole team should be imploded except Lance Berkman and Hunter Pence... It's time to start from the ground up.... Cut the team salary, get younger, and maybe just maybe the "R" word is worth doing.

btw would you take Hurley, Engel Beltre, Derek Holland, and Marcus Lemon for Oswalt?

Maybe we just want the compensatory pick if/when he leaves next year via free agency.

Wade's veiled attempt to restock the farm system. Move out the trash and get a guy who will walk that'll give you a second first round pick :D

Actually, this is not a bad idea. If you can get him for nothing of value and you do get a 1st round pick out of it, then it's actually a great idea. Do the Astros have to offer him arbitration to make that happen, though? He's signed 1-yr deals the last few years, so he might just accept it.

Randy Wolf could easily accept arbitration and then you have a crappy pitcher for $7-$8 million next year. This is why Philly fans call your GM "Zippy the Chimp".

I have a feeling this is a Drayton deal. That Drayton is the one suggesting we keep trying to add pieces....I wonder if Ed feels the same or is just following orders.

You're a Houstonian also, last time I checked, so I don't know why you say "your GM" to us.

drayton not understanding a lick about baseball is finally catching up to this franchise. we're turning into a pathetic franchise folks, but as long as we keep showing up to games and drayton makes his 10 mil/year, there is nothing that's going to change.

Catch up to us? He's owned the team for about 15 years now. I'm thinking if that were gonna catch up to us, it would have already...and we wouldn't have enjoyed the most successful span of baseball in the franchise's history with him as owner.

I know it's been said already, but this has very little to do with Ed Wade. It's simply that Drayton will not allow this team to rebuild, and Wade has to play within those parameters. It's the same "patchwork" mentality that they had in 2006 and 2007, trying to find enough juice to climb above .500, which would traditionally compete in the usually weak NL Central.

The problem, of course, is that the NL Central isn't weak anymore -- it's going to take a legitimate team to compete with the Cubs and Brewers, and Drayton hasn't caught up with that concept.
