http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/48130/coming-soon-ads-on-nba-jerseys This is interesting- while the Knicks would always command a premium, the Rockets may be able to do so as well due to Lin.
I wonder if it will be part of revenue sharing of if clubs can keep whatever revenue they generate from this.
Profits would be split 30 ways, so it wouldn't matter if Lin was in NYC or Houston. They don't lose out as much in that sense, in regards to jersey money.
can we advertise the rockets logo on other team jerseys? maybe then free agents will want to come here.
I guess im not excited about this either way, but you had to see this coming. At least it won't be too big.
This is going to create conflicts because you will have players who have endorsement deals with say one company and an ad on them for a competitor. It's not going to work out well. I would think there are easier ways to add another $3 million dollars in revenue per team than slapping adds on players. I think it will hurt the brand in the long run and be more of a distraction. A 5x5 ad will only be able to show a logo and it will only be seen in close up shots or replays.
Happens all the time. Their uniforms are essentially ads for that apparel company. The player doesn't necessarily wear those shoes. It's not like we're talking about professional soccer jerseys where you actually can identify the team by the sponsor on their shirt. It's a small patch on the jersey. I don't think it's a big deal at all...as long as this is where it stops.
I don't like this idea at all. I don't know specifically why I don't like it, I just don't like the idea of advertising on NBA jerseys. Seems bush league.
What about The Adidas logo or Nike swoosh, do you have a problem with those? It's the same thing and is on every jersey already.
