http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4643120 [rquoter] DALLAS -- Tracy McGrady is closer to getting back on the court after microfracture surgery, but no timetable has been set for the seven-time All-Star's return to the Houston Rockets. "He's been able to practice and doesn't have the pain he had last year," Rockets coach Rick Adelman said Tuesday. "He still has a long ways to go as far as running the court and moving defensively." There was an Internet report Monday that McGrady, who had surgery on his left knee in February, planned to make his season debut Nov. 18 against Minnesota. However, McGrady backed off that statement on Tuesday, saying instead that Nov. 18 was just a "target date." "It's a target date," McGrady told the Houston Chronicle on Tuesday. "I didn't say I was coming back; I said it was a target date just like we have a date to have the MRI on the 23rd. Everybody is blowing it out of proportion like I'm guaranteed to come back. I want to play, so that's what we're targeting. I've been working out every day, improving every day, and that's what it is. "It's not a guarantee that I'm coming back. It's a target date," he said. Adelman also was quick to dismiss that date. "Coming off that surgery, you're not going to have the quickness you had before," Adelman said. "He's done OK. But he has a long way to go." Information from The Associated Press was used in this report. [/rquoter]
just stamina work from what adelman is saying (running up and down the floor and moving laterally). nothing too major. it's gonna take at least a few weeks before he can be in NBA shape. but he HAS BEEN PRACTICING.
"He still has a long ways to go as far as running the court and moving defensively." reading is fundamental brother.
I think thats fair enough for him to set a target date ? Everyone sets a goal for themselves. I think the key point is for him to be practicing which he is
Are you actually buying into that? Stamina does not = A long way to go. While it is true that after being off for a while getting back upto NBA speed takes some time. Mcgrady has been in this league long enough to adjust though... Its obvious how he feels about tmac returning.
that's why i said AT LEAST A FEW WEEKS before he returns. what part of that are you not reading? isn't late to be drinking at night DD?
Actually, its not even that that gets me. Adelman is incredible LOYAL to his players...to a fault sometimes actually. He basically shot mcgrady's claim down like nothing. Even during the Drama last year all he basically said was i wish he informed the team first. It seems as if though he finally has the team he wants and feels he can exert the necessary control at tiems.
Moving defensivley means he might be struggling at making sharp turns on defending picks and alike. obviously that was bound to happen after having this type surgey and considering how far ahead of scheduel he is. nothing seriouse and maybe bit more tie rehabbing will fix it.
If Rockets wanted to increase his trade value, they wouldn't be givin this negative stuff. I say it's all bogus, just for you and I to talk about it, i.e media.
dude just a week ago the opponent's broadcasting team said tracy basically was out of gas running up and down the court ONCE. running/playing is different from just running cardio. and like adelman said, he also has to regain his lateral movement defensively. he's getting close. like i said, he's going to need to go hard in practices for AT LEAST a few more weeks. end of november is probably more like it.
Yeah, because the head coach saying he is a long way from playing or that he does not have that quickness back, is good for the enthusiasm. Oh brother......Bartender.....another round........please.... I need to reach their alternative reality..... DD
