Didn't see this interesting analysis of the move posted: http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/page/5-on-5-121028/nba-james-harden-trade-thoughts
Adande must have learned math from bizzarro world. Because $8.6mil+$8.6mil+$14~15mil is a lot less than $45mil.
He obviously doesn't know that the poison pill contract doesn't count 15mil on our salary in the 3rd year. Great to see an "expert" (who's getting paid good money) that doesn't even know what he's talking about.
Its still money the Rockets have to pay out. The Rockets will be spending 45 million on those 3 players. The cap is irrelevant to the comment.
Sure. But you shouldn't care about how much $ the Rockets are paying out. All that is relevant is how it affects the cap.
By this logic the Rockets are paying Harden, Lin, and Asik something like $16mil this year combined. For Christ sakes that's just slightly more than Brook Lopez money BY HIMSELF. Wouldn't that make this the greatest deal ever? Seriously, in the end it's just Les Alexander's future self borrowing money from his present self to pay for them. Not exactly a big deal.
It is completely relevant if it affects the Rockets ability to go after other players due to a constraint on salary payments by the owner. That all depends on Les. If money were no object, Harden would still be on the Thunder. I agree, but we shouldn't necessarily take that as a given. This isn't even meant to be a criticism of our owner - just that when it comes down to it in 2015, he may not say "Oh, well my roster salary was below the cap figure the last 2 years, so I don't mind now that it's above." My guess is it will come down to our performance. If Lin and Asik perform well (along with Harden), he'll probably make the jump and acquire the extra talent. If not, it's hard to justify on a middling team.
Excellent quote, give me a break, that doesn't scare anyone and we gave up Martin, Lamb, and 2 1st round picks plus a max contract to Harden (max I say?). Cook, Aldrich, Lazard (sp chk). Give me a break Love the rockets though, when we overhaul the front office, we will get back to winning. You can't keep trading pieces and form chemistry.
Lol, I have no problems with the contracts that are being paid out by the Rockets. Im just saying, the comment "The Rockets will be paying Lin, Asik, and Harden 45 million dollars"...is a true statement. Im more than happy to do that with the cap structure/payout.
