I was just looking through all 16 playoff teams and it seems that almost every team has near super star quality type of point guard. Only few teams have quality center. I just wanted to know if the depth of point guards has ever been deeper than this year's playoffs?

Sam, Bibby, Nash, Pakrer, Jwill, Francis, Dre Miller, Payton
Wade, Baron, Kidd, Marbury, Tinsley, Bucks w/ Tj Ford. Billup. Boston is the only team w/o quality Point Guard.

but how many are true point guards?

nash, bibby, parker, williams (much improved since the trade),kidd and possibly ford

the others are really 2 guards that have enough playmaking ability to try being point or are undersized to play the 2 spot (davis, francis marbury, wade, billups)

i dont think at all this is an era of point guards but it soon could be with all the big guys being drafted from overseas. If at least 1/2 pan out to what they claim to be big man may no longer be a commodity in the nba in 10 years but who knows anything can happen

The only true superstar in the NBA at PG right now is Kidd.

None of those other PGs can lead a team like Kidd can.

Except for GP 5 years ago. The rest are role players or #2 options. They just don't carry a team like Kidd.

I agree. I still remember the days of a good PGs that didnt have to be superstars

    Terrell Brandon
    Kenny Anderson in his prime
    Terry Porter
    Kevin Johnson
    Mugsy Bouges

Don't kid yourself about the point guard position. It's a big mans game, and Yao Ming better step it up when it counts in order for the Rockets to achive greatness.

In today's NBA it is vitale to have one that can run the team correctly.

With a lack of fundamentals now prevalent a good setup man can get more out of the mediocre players.

In the fundamental days, everyone could pass and shoot, now...well...

people keep saying it's a big man's game but the point guards are impacting these playoffs tremendously.

Minn v. Sacto -- bibby and sam... that's what the series so far has come down too. the adjustment by saunders or putting sprewell on bibby is what gave the wolves the win. oh, and cassell hit the game winner.

LA v. SA -- duncan brings it day in day out, but 22-12 isn't going to win the game by itself. parker torching the lakers is why the spurs have been winning. but this time they made a similar defensive adjustment as the wolves/kings series and they won.

Nets v. Pistons -- all about jefferson's speed vs. the size of the wallaces right? nope. the x-factor has been chauncy billups. they made an adjustment to take kidd of and put kittles on billups to neutralize him, and that severely hampered the detroit offense.

so yeah... era of point guards. maybe.

I would say the most stacked position in the NBA is shooting guard, followed by power forward. Point guard is third, small forward 4th and center brings up the rear.
