For me this was one of the most memorable TV scenes in history: <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/WCE7vXXv9M8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

It was the beginning of the end of the Cold War with the collapse of Communism. My family and I lived in Berlin at the time, and I've never seen such a mix of extreme shock, happiness, disbelief, and anxiety again. The closest sensation minus the happiness would be the initial moments on the morning of 9/11. 1989 was an incredible year.

Nice pick. It reminds me I was trying to watch the whole series but I unintentionally stopped a few weeks ago. I'll add in one generalization: cartoons. It's been discussed time and time again around here: Transformers, Robotech, Voltron, Thundercats, GI Joe, He-Man, etc.
