I'm in the market for my first DSLR camera. Since I'm no photography expert, I'm ambiguous as to what advantages/features I should put at the top of the list. So far I've checked the Cnet recommendations, but some of the top cameras have very old reviews so I don't know what to make of that. Are there any other review sites to read up on? Any online sites w/ the best deals pricewise? Personal recommendations? My budget would be on the very low end...$500? TIA.
You can get you a Canon Digital Rebel XT for around that price maybe cheaper.. It cost me $1000 when I bought mine. That was like 3 years ago though. It is actually really good, especially if you are new to using SLRs. I bought it because I couldn't afford the one I really wanted but I love it and I haven't even though about upgrading.
This is a great entry camera that will take quality pictures that should be top notch for any family.
www.dpreview.com www.steves-digicams.com I have a Canon Rebel XTi. Check out the Rebel XSi or T1i and their various reviews on the Web.
to be honest, there are 2 top brands: Canon and Nikon. They are almost indistinguishable in terms of quality, especially entry level cameras. the only thing I will emphasize is that these brands are LENS companies, not camera companies. What makes them better than other brands are their lenses. Keep that in mind if you are interested in expanding down the road.
PS- i chose nikon just because I liked the feel of the camera and something about the pictures sticks out to me, don't know what.
D50 is a great starter. Stay with Canon, Sony or Nikon. Nikon used to have the best lenses hands down but Canon caught up. Not sure about sony.
