I actually think the last few seasons have been a dramatic improvement over the few before that when it suddenly became cool to dislike The Simpsons.
Even with the one or two unfunny seasons and some of things growing tired....it is an American icon and I think is one of the greatest TV shows in history.
Do people who say the Simpsons aren't funny even watch the show regularly anymore? The show makes money, so if you are wondering why the people who profit off the show are still rolling it out, that is why.
one or two? try season 11 through 18 yeah. i like most of season 10 and a one or two eps from 11, but overall 11 is very unfunny
I can't believe I stopped watching a decade ago. I'm so old. I just can't watch them anymore if it's the newer ones in syndication. My friend had the first 7 seasons on DVD and we watched them one time...now that was great television. But hey, if it's still popular and they're making money, more power to them. (I thought the movie was good, though)
No kidding. I think it's popular to say "is that show even on anymore?" and refer to it as having gone downhill, but it's still putting out great stuff, if you try watching it. So many things change in pop culture, it's nice to have one that's been the same for a long time (for me, since high school). It's good to have some things you can keep for a while.
The last 2-3 seasons actually have been pretty good, but after so many seasons of sub-par comedy I can see how people have been reluctant to go back to watching it.
No matter how good the show is (or isn't?) that's a load of cash for people who do not appear in front of the camera! You wouldn't think it would be that hard to find others who could do the voices. They must have an iron clad contract of some sort. Wouldn't it be cool if the writers made that much. They're the ones who make the show.
I don't think any of the voices are generic enough to be 'replaceable', and definitely not at this stage in production. Everybody watching would notice if they bought a new Bart or Marge. The voices behind the Simpsons are all great actors who take their work seriously, if you haven't seen it I would recommend checking out the Inside the Actor's Studio with the cast of the Simpsons. Plus, pretty much every actor does multiple recurring characters and countless one-time appearances, so they would be hard to replace. Harry Shearer: [Mr. Burns, Waylon Smithers, Ned Flanders, Reverend Timothy Lovejoy, Kent Brockman, Dr. Julius Hibbert, Dr. Marvin Monroe, Lenny Leonard, Principal Seymour Skinner, Otto Mann, Scratchy and Rainier Wolfcastle] Hank Azaria: [Moe Szyslak, Chief Wiggum, Apu Nahasapeemapetilon, Comic Book Guy, Carl Carlson, Cletus Spuckler, Professor Frink, Dr. Nick Riviera, Lou, Snake, Kirk Van Houten, the Sea Captain, Superintendent Chalmers, Duffman] Dan Castellaneta: [Homer Simpson, Abraham "Grampa" Simpson, Barney Gumble, Krusty the Clown, Groundskeeper Willie, Mayor Joe Quimby, Hans Moleman, Sideshow Mel, Itchy, Kodos, Arnie Pie, Scott Christian, Squeaky Voiced Teen] They are going to be f***ed if Harry Shearer doesn't come back, although I can't see them going forward without him. Doesn't feel right.
another vote for it has gotten better the past few seasons I would rather more mediocore seasons of simpsons than some other reality show crap.
I'm happy. Of course The Simpsons won't be as good as before, but that's a pretty high standard. It's like asking McGrady to score 13 in 35 again. The potential to do it is always there, but it's not likely to happen. Enjoy the series. The Simpsons has established itselsf as an American, if not world, ICON. We are part of history. We are witnesses. I know this much is true in regards to the show: It will be a VERY, VERY sad day when The Simpsons runs its final episode. People that are bashing it now don't know what they have 'til it's gone.
People bashing it now are bashing the last half of it's run. The Golden Age of the Simpsons is over. (I forgot how great that Dental Plan episode was). That said, I will try to catch some of the later episodes since some of you are saying it has gotten better and give it a shot.
I agree. Even with the improved quality today, though, it's still not anywhere near on par with the Glory Years.
start with this one http://watchthesimpsonsonline.com/movie/128-The_Simpsons_1904_I_Don039t_Wanna_Know_Why_the_Caged_Bird_Sings.html i watched that episode at Mig/Moe's place a few weeks ago with Kam, hardest I laughed at Simpsons in a LONG TIME
Even during the "crappy" years, the Simpsons was still head and shoulders above most comedies on tv. The worst Simpsons episode is 10 times better than the best Family Guy. I watch one Simpsons episode every night before I go to bed. I rarely catch one I havn't seen. I enjoy it with all my heart and will be very sad when the show finally has to go away.
and we march day and night by the big cooling tower..they have the plant but we have the power. classic epsidoe lisa was going off It'sjust obvious that they're not as good as they once were. In fact it was bad. maybe it's gotten better lately. i dont know. i havent watched the last 2 seasons. they got away from certain stuff. now they focus too much on the simpson family and one story line. if they were still funny people wouldnt be saying it's unfunny. simple as that. It actually got stupid when they started having guest stars for EVERY epsidoe....the Mel Gibson was the last good one....starting with Kid rock and Joe C (sp?) thats when the simpsons downfall began. although i did like homer the food critic and when moe gets plastic surgery. With seasons 11-15...i can count how many times i laughed on my fingers. if you say that the people who think the simpsons arent funny are trying to be cool....you obviously dont remember seaons 2-9....and it's not comparing seaons 14 to season 4...you either laugh or you dont, and im not laughing during season 14
What was good about the old episodes is that if you're educated the joke is even funnier, which is why I love watching re-runs YEARS after it aired. Like back when I was young I thought it was funny, but watching it again later on in life I can finally understand the depth of the joke. Example: When Homer became a boxer and Moe had his office in the ladies restroom, he pressed this lever on this box that said "For your convenience" and a cigar came out. I watched that episode a few years later and realized it was a tampon dispenser, and I laughed even more. It's the little things like that that made me appreciate the Simpsons humor. The last 2 seasons have been like that, where they make an obscure reference to literary, history, or pop culture in the dialogue that just makes you laugh, and the best thing is that it's discreet, unlike Family Guy where a reference automatically turns into a cut scene.
