I hadn't seen anyone start a thread on the Enron Trial that is going on in downtown Houston, so I thought I'd start one. Mods, please lock it if there is one going already.

Is anyone paying attention to the trial?

    What are your takes?

The Chron (www.chron.com) has good coverage, with bloggers at the courthouse.

Andy Fastow took the stand today. He seems to be pinning a few things on Skilling.

Personally, if Lay, Skilling and Fastow all do not do serious time and are made seriously bankrupt, I will be seriously disgusted.

Not only should the three of them do hard time, but they should do hard time in general population.

    With the other thieves.

Aah. Probably be better to lock that one and keep this one, since this trial may spark some "differences of opinion".

anything short of the three of them spending the rest of their lives in a small cell with a cellmate ironically named TINY, will be a serious slap to every "common" man's face. I will lose all faith in our justice system.

With Fastow taking the stand today, things are about to get interesting. I love how Lay and Skilling are trying to distance themselves from Fastow and all of his shenanigans. They signed off on everything! Fastow's shady partnerships are what made all 3 of them kazillionaires and they knew everything.

Abso-friking-lutely, and that is why all three should be punished severely, with hard prison time and tens of millions of dollars in fines.

Remember what Eddie Murphy said in "Trading Places"....the best way to piss off a rich person is to put them in the poor house (or something like that).

Fastow is describing about how he used his own family to enrich himself in the illegal deals:

They deserved to be punished to the fullest extent possible...BUT, if OJ got off, anyone can.

Andy is now getting emotional on the stand, describing how he lied to his wife and that ultimately caused her to be sentenced to prison:

I can't understand why Lea hasn't dumped his sorry ass by now, the freaking thief.

Ol' Andy is coming out swinging against Ken Lay today, but check out the link for a link to a blog from a Houston lawyer that states Andy just might have perjured himself yesterday when talking about his family:

Eh. Lea isn't exactly an innocent bystander in all of this. She's not stupid. She HAD to know that money wasn't a "gift". At the very least she should have questioned it. Kind of sleazy that Fastow wouldn't take the blame and let her go to prison, but still. She deserved it.

This is all kind of strange because I find myself actually pulling for Fastow in this trial. He's going down and he knows it so he's trying to take Skilling and Lay with him, and that's exactly what should happen. They're just as guilty as him.

I agree on both counts. Lea is a sweet person, but might have been a little naive in this case. I don't know, because I wasn't there. All I know is that she made a bad choice in husbands. I am also rooting for Fastow to take Skilling and Lay down with him. All three of them are guilty as hell, and for the sake of those who trusted them, worked for them, and invested in Enron, all three need to be sentenced to serious prison time and be made paupers financially. Then they will be able to truly feel the pain they have caused.
