I wasn't going to post this, but I am sick of hearing the excuse "it's just the preseason". What are we going to say during the season when our superstar point guard takes 21 shots while only dishing out 3 assists and turning the ball over 6 times? You guys are right, it's just the preseason. This is the time we need to be working on getting the entire team into the new offense, not resorting back to the boring and predicatable old Rocket-iso-ball. I may be reacting a bit harsh, but I am sick of hearing excuses. These guys know what needs to be done to succeed. They need to play as a team, which they aren't. I know "it's just preseason", but in the 2 wins Steve has played in he averaged 9.5 assists. In the 3 losses he's played he averaged 3 assists. It's not just Steve's fault, so don't take this as Steve hating. It's everyone from Rudy on down to the bench. No more excuses. The preseason is over.
Ill say this. At least Steve has shown a willingness to pass. Cuttino is another story. I was very unhappy with his play last night. He forced several drives and shots with two men on him while his teamates were open. I think Cuttino's passing will be more of a problem than Steve's.
Are you f-ing nuts??? Look at the damn line score for the last two games!!! Am I the only one that noticed Steve had a TOTAL of 5 assists in 2 GAMES while putting up 40 SHOTS!!!!!! What f-ing willingness to pass are you talking about and what are you smoking bc if the year goes like this I will need some to help make it through the season!!!
we are currently discussing this very same topic of Excuses and ISO in kidrock's 3 page thread motion=ISO Pimp, shame on you. Resist the urge to start a new thread.
Don't jelly coat it, tell him how you really feel... I agree, WTF Codell? Steve WAS looking to pass a few games ago, but lately he has not. Rudy has been toying with CAT bringing the ball upcourt and Steve playing the 2 in that situation. That may be part of Steve's reduced playmaking. I have yet to see anyone hit Yao on the pick and roll and he has been open on the roll... It's Yao or never...
The two games where he had 9 assists shows, at times, Steve has been willing to work his teamates into the offense. Cuttino has absolutely not been looking for his teamates.
I can't tell you how pissed I was with less than a minute to go when EG set a pick at the FT line for SF and both player went to SF leaving EG wide open, and what did FRANCHISE do... challenged both players and turned the ball over. I am not a Steve basher, but keep this up and he deserves it! Not defending Cat, but the guy is a 2 and knows it. A 2 will not be called upon to distribute.. your PG is SUPPOSED to!!
Steve looked like he was trying to look better than Iverson. Problem is Iverson had like 14 assists...
Apparently you are about as strong a baskeball mind as Francis. PG - is to run the floor, distribute the ball to teamates, shoot when needed. SEE STOCKTON, NASH, KIDD SG - typically the highest scorer and best shooter on the team looking to score first pass if opportunity is not available. SEE JORDAN, CARTER, McGRADY, KOBE, & the list goes on. Get an idea about how basketball is supposed to be played before you come in here and spew excessive amount of crap that you know nothing about to people that at least have a clue.
You need to own up to your original statement and admit that saying that a 2 isnt called upon to distribute is flat out incorrect. Next to Francis, Cuttino has the ball in his hands more than anyone else. Our team is VERY dependent on Cuttino's willingness to pass the ball. Geesh. So you are saying that Jordan, McGrady and Kobe arent required to distribute the ball because they are 2 guards?
Put the crack pipe down and slowly back away... I can't believe I'm sticking up for Codell... Look, the way I see it is Rudy has been experimenting with interchanging Cat and Steve at 1-2 on the fly. Cat has been bringing the ball upcourt and Steve has been running off picks etc.. I think this is good, mix it up. In that sense, your rigid 1 is a 1 and 2 is a 2 still holds, however, the player actually playing the 1 or 2 is not so plain and simple - Cat and Steve have been alternating. Maybe you need to watch more closely for some clues as to what really is going on...
Actually Cuttino had a bunch of nice passes and 5 assists a couple of games ago. I think it was the Sunday game?
I have read all of your statements and One thing still bother's me, Rudy took away the Triangle offense because of no dominant center that could get doubled team....ok we have that now, the triangle offense forces the Pg to assist, Example See Lakers And 95 Rockets. It forces players to be unselfish. Am i wrong....Please tell me.
Their primary responsibility is to score, period. Yes, they are to pass on a much lower level. Look let me explain it with stats: CAREER #'s- SG: Jordan 23.2 FGA 5.4 AST per game McGrady 20.0 FGA 5.0 AST per game Carter 22 FGA 5 AST per game PG: Stockton 9.2 FGA 10.7 AST per game Kidd 12.8 FGA 9.4 AST per game Bibby 12.9 FGA 7.1 AST per game Do you see a pattern here Einstien?? I am not defending Cat's passing or distribution. I stated that is not his PRIMARY ROLL. You made the idiotic statement that Stevie Boy is showing a "willingness to pass" and that statement is flat out FALSE. He is a SG, and plays like a SG.
couple notes: 1. This is the preseason and I am concerned a bit. Though, howmany times will we see 5 rookies (including Collier) on the floor squander a 10 point lead. This happened the past 2 losses. This will only happen if we are completely devastated with injuries. On the court beginning the 2nd and through until about 4 minutes were: Collier, Ming, Nachbar, Hawkins and Brown. This is where we started to lose this game and during the regular you won't see this lineup 2. Steve needs to start stepping up down the stretch. he is not executing and finding the open men, though Eddie was horrible in the shooting department last night. We win when Steve moves the ball too 3. Cat is trying the find his game. The shots he took last night were decent. He just was flat and missed open shots a lot. 4. Rice will be in down the stretch too.
