"His food doesn't stick going down, does it". Can someone please explain what that means? Southern saying?
lol... Okay. Chemistry question! What is Oxygen's oxidation number and what does it do during a chemical reaction?
1. Oxygen is assigned an oxidation number of -2 in compounds, with two exceptions... 1 Fluorine's oxidation number always takes precedence. 2 Oxygen oxygen bonds follow previous rules, meaning other assignments take place first leaving oxygen to neutralize the charge. 2(a) The oxygen has an oxidation number of -1 in peroxide compounds As far as what it does during a reaction, you need to be a little more specific... the broad picture is molecules interact with each other, but I'm sure you're looking for a better answer than that. What kind of reaction? which molecules are involved? etc.
Oh, PLEASE don't get me started on Chemistry. I HATE Chemistry. (And it's not because I have a C in there. Oh wait, yes it is). Maybe that's because all we (and when I mean we, I mean me and a couple other classmates) do in there is discuss how we can make a hydrogen bomb and how it's quite possible to make laughing gas a byproduct from pretty much anything we work with (which includes highly explosive, corrosive, and poisonous organic chemicals). Good times.
'...HA! I have a 3.97 and ranked 3 out of 150 in AL high school taking all AP classes (except AUTOCad/drafting)....' You can rank 3 with a 'C'? What kind of class do you have?
I thought it meant that he could be proud and hold his head high, instead of hanging his head in shame which, incidently, makes it hard to swallow. Depending on the context.
I've never heard this as a generic saying. It's a quote from "To Kill a Mockingbird." From the context of the novel and IMO, the quote refers to a person who severely insults someone in his own house, in front of his family, and eating his food. I've heard other interpretations too. It's a rare quote, but it's up to various interpretations. You can't be wrong as long as it makes logical sense. I guess that's why it's great for English class finals.
Geez, JV, I thought I did pretty good for coming up with something off the top of my head... as it were. I was trying to think of what someone would mean if they said that in East Texas. I still think it sounds like something some old codgers might use to describe a guy that'll swallow any line. But I'll bow to your explanation. (whichever one fits!) SLA, is this for a literature class?? Give us some context!
