An engineer friend of mine came to me for advice concerning PCs. He wants to know which client machines will be best to meet his engineering needs. He mentioned AutoCAD and other types of engineering drawings that according to him require lots of memory and processor speed.

How would you advice him to invest his money wisely? Please list a few specs you think are most important and product maker if necessary.

    Thanks.

For CAD, I would have to recommend one of the mid to high-end Dell Precision Workstations. He will need at least 1GB of RAM in addition to a high end graphics card capable of handling 3D graphics applications.

if it is indeed highspecs he is looking for...a dual processor system with 1G DDR ram is minimum......a Athlon64 system might even be the ticket for that...(depends on if the programs they want to run have 64 bit versions)

dont have time to look up specs/systems righjt now....but suffice to say that the most high end system they can afford would be a wise choice...

    Thank Baqui99.

Would you recommend Pentium, AMD athlon or otherwise? And why.

    Thanks once again.

I hear the Athlon 64 systems are quite powerful. But the Intel Itanium system should work well too. FYI, Dell does not ship systems with AMD technology.
