How would you guys grade players for the season ? I was planning on waiting for the OKC series to end before asking this but it seems like it will be a whitewash and I don't want to really make it factor into the ratings since everyone on the team (apart from Beverly) is shooting less than 40 percent here. I'll start off. Please feel free to chime in. I just want to see what the general opinion is on how the players have performed over the season. 1. James Harden : A James had a lot of doubters coming in to the season. Many people were shocked when we maxed him out and almost no one expected him to average 26 points ! There are some things I'd like him to improve on, like playing defense and getting a mid range game. These things will come with time I think. I'm just very very happy he is with us. We were extremely lucky to get him, but we had a GM who put us in a place to be lucky. I'm not gay, but watching Harden I can understand how someone can become so. 2. Omer Asik : B+ Omer is a monster on the boards. I'd however like for him to work more on his offense to the point that he is not a liability. One thing for sure though is that if we did not have him we would be giving up 130 points every game. 3. Jeremy Lin : B Jeremy Lin came into the season having had surgery on his knee. He struggled a lot early on but came on strong towards the middle of the season. He has been averaging good numbers since the all star break. He didn't really didn't finish the season strongly but almost no one on the team did. In the off season I'd like him to shoot a thousand threes a day and work more on finishing with his left hand and adding the floater his shooting coach is talking about. Jeremy is a hard working guy and I'm sure he'll get better. I know many others here don't rate him highly, but I'm confident he'll prove them wrong. 4. Chandler Parsons: A- Chandler made a huge leap from last year especially in terms of his three point shot. He has been a revelation for us this year. I think he can still get a lot better if he works on his passing, ball handling and defense. Short grades for the rest : Greg Smith : C. Needs a lot of work on defense, but I'm confident he'll improve. Donatas Motiejunas : C. Hopefully rookie jitters Delfino : B Beverly : A. Performed way beyond what was expected of him. Terrence Jones : Hasn't really played enough to judge. Garcia : B Jermaine O'Neal : A Royce White : F

James Harden: A-/A He's been struggled at the end of the season. Overall he is playing ALL Star level. Have to learn when to pass the ball and get more teammates involved in offence... Need to play defense to be a superstar Asik: B+ The big man who plays defense and is a rebounding machine! Offensive game is improving Parsons: B+ Do all the tasks. He is our glue guy! He is doing everything OKAY/GOOD this season...but nothing special. He have to find a weapon in offensive end. Lin: B Inconsistent, but he is improved at the end of the season. Needs to cut down his turnovers and work on his jump shoot Patrick Beverly: B Nice pick up by morey. he can change the game pace! Delfino: B His three pointers save us many games. Patrick Patterson: B- Good jump shoot, help defense but no rebounding and post game at all Toney Douglas: B- Clutch and Solid Player! Greg Smith: B- Good Finisher around the rim....but foul prone and not good in defense Morris: C+ Garcia: C+ James Anderson: C+ TJONE: C+/B- Promising. Hv some nice games in defensive end. DMO: C Need to bulk up! Thomas Robinson: C Need to know how to put the ball into the hole...... Royce White: F He helps our team by not playing.
Sorry, that's something I missed in my assessment of Harden. He needs to improve his DEFENSE Too much ball watching and lack of effort and commitment.
There's two way to look at this, overall and relative to expectation... I guess I grade on both. Harden: Overall: A- , great elite scorer (although I must say I would hate his style big time if he wasn't on the team.). defense really knocks it down a notch though. he was getting beat by pickup basketball plays out there from time to times. Versus Expectation: A+ , didn't expect him to be THIS elite of a scorer. Lin Overall: B . was about average, but played every game which is a big plus. Versus Expectation: B+ to A- certainly answered most questions on him going into the season more or less, some in convincing fashion. But some strength also slipped though mostly due to different system. Parsons: Overall : B+ really coming into his own as a very well rounded player. Defense slipped a bit as the year went on and also had hot and cold spells but really quite good as a whole. Versus Expectation : B+ didn't run into the dreaded sophmore wall, addressed previous question a lot but also had previous strength slip somewhat. Asik: Overall: B+ , great defensively, acceptable offensively, and played all 82 games. Versus Expectation: A+ , no one thought he could even score a little, and people worried if his D translate into starter minutes. Beverly: Overall: B+ to A- , great role player, still a bit too limited offensively, but defensively off the charts. Versus Expectation : A+++++++++ When your expectation is nothing, and you end up being one of the best role player in the league... Greg Smith: Overall: B , from a per 36 POV he's actually great, but foul trouble and inability to step up when forced into bigger role knocked him back a notch. Versus Expectation : A , not much was expected of him, he ended up being one of the most valuable bench players. Delfino : Overall: B , mostly did what you paid him to do. experienced vet that does well enough in limited role but suck in greater one. Versus expectation: B, basically did about what you expected when you signed him. Rest are mostly incomplete, but a short run would be Jones: overall C, Versus expectation B Dmo : overall C-, versus expecation B- Anderson: overall C+, versus expectation B+ Garcia : overall C+, versus expectation B T-Rob: overall D, versus expectation C- White: overall F, versus expectation F.
RollingWave, how about F--- for White in the versus expectation column. He is a way bigger headcase than expected.
Harden: A+ Asik: A Parsons: B+ Lin: D Patterson: F Morris: D Douglas: C Smith: C Motiejunas: C Jones: C Beverley: B+ Delfino: B The rest: D McHale: F Morey: A+ That seems about right.
Harden - A+ Parsons - A- (though he has to stop bricking in the playoffs) Lin - C+ Asik - A Beverley - A+ Our PF's - C's Delfino - C Mchale - D
Morey could be given an A+ for the Harden deal and the incredible amount of flexibility he's given us for the future.
James Harden [B+] - James, while certainly capable of filling in for the star role in Houston, has had his fair share of shaky games. I'll just leave that to his youth and his inexperience in playing so many minutes. His second half of the season was absolutely dismal shooting-wise. He ended up shooting worse than Lin, not trying to knock on him, and that too I'll chunk up to maybe his minutes catching up to him? Jeremy Lin [C+] - He's not Linsanity, but he's still an above average point guard. Inconsistency is why I'm giving him the C+. His averages aren't bad, but watching him go lights out one game and then play piss poor the next? That's not good. In any other situation he'd be a solid B. His potential out of all the players on the starting lineup save Harden may be higher though, only time will tell. Chandler Parsons [B+] - Parsons has definitely improved in all categories since his rookie season. He has become an almost lights out shooter, improved his free throw shooting tremendously and is capable of impacting the game from all angles. Jack of all trades. Omer Asik [A-] - I don't know about you guys but I was expecting Omer to suck horribly. He has far exceeded all of my expectations and is the dominant center the Rockets have craved for years since Yao went down. His offense is raw, and he may be clumsy at times but Omer is a huge addition to the team. Patrick Beverley [A-] - Far exceeded expectations. Hustle is amazing. Defense is amazing. Huge morale booster on the team. That being said there are some games where he gets a little bit too reckless. Prone to fouling a lot because of the defense he plays. Amazing pickup. Thomas Robinson [C-] - Absolute disappointment. Small sample size sure, but the guy looks confused and apathetic on the court. His offense has leaks of potential but its also extremely one dimensional. He's quick but lacks post footwork, he's strong but lacks a back to the basket game. Again Robinson's potential is pretty high but wow his skills definitely need work. Carlos Delfino [B-] - The only thing Carlos is out there to do is shoot the ball and he's been doing that well all season long. Outside of that he's been average. Hit some big shots, missed a fair share of them too. Average, overall good pickup. Donatas Motiejunas [C+] - Overrated and cocky. Dude has no identity on the court. He hustles, but doesn't get rebounds and loose balls. He shoots threes but rarely makes them. His post moves range from "WOW!" to "WTF!". I honestly don't know about him. Terrence Jones [C+] - Small sample size. Can't really say much. I'd say he's the best PF of the bunch however. Greg Smith [B-] - If Greg Smith the man shows up you're in for a good show. If Greg Smith the softie shows up... well... Royce White [F-] - A pathetic loser. The rest Francisco Garcia [B-] James Anderson [B-] Aaron Brooks [C+]
I would grade them similar to RedRedemption. A might bump up Lin and Delfino to a B- and B respectively, though.
Harden : A- Lin : B- Parsons : B+ Asik : A Bev : B+ The PFs : C- Deflino : C Garcia : C- look into your heart and you know it to be true
I also think you should bump up Greg Smith to a B+, because he was expected to just be a benchwarmer, and he's played well for the most part. Parsons needs to get an A- as well! He's just terrific!
