My 16-17 YO cat, Zeke, died this morning. His brother Manny had to be put down about 2 years ago with cancer and his housemate, Callie, died on Thanksgiving night last. I petted her while she breathed her last. Zeke crawled up under the back porch this morning and has not moved. I petted him a while ago and got no response. I stretched his tail out and it has not moved since... I got all three cats in a two day period in the Fall of 1991. Zeke and Manny were litter-mates (half Siamese and jet black). Callie was a lost kitten we picked up at the bus stop one morning when my college graduated son was in first grade. We are left with one yellow tabby, Ozzie, who is about 15 MOS old. Guess we'll be looking for a new kitty pretty soon. So long, Zeke. He was a great, friendly cat who slept at my feet and woke me every morning wanting to be fed. He was my buddy. He was named for Zeke Moore-- the old Oiler cornerback.
Sorry about the news, giddy. Cool name for Zeke, however. (I remember him... not the cat , on the Oilers) I've always loved cats, and always had a cat and a dog, until I met who became, eventually, my wife. She's allergic to cats, badly. It's a good thing that I was between cats (mine were indoor/outdoor, and sometimes you just lose one... they go off on an adventure and don't come back), and that I had a dog she wasn't allergic to. If she'd been allergic to the Wonder Dog, we wouldn't be together today, lol. That's a long time to have a cat(s), brother. Sounds like my parent's cat, who lived to be 16 or 17. Tiger was a slug, and after surviving a collision with a car, never crossed a street again. Thus the long lifespan, I guess. I think that as sad as it is, you were lucky to have them that long.
All condolences, giddyup. I hope Zeke had a healthy last couple of years. He had a nice, long cat life in a good home, sounds like.
I'm real sorry to hear about that. I lost my 12 year-old cat Klea to cancer last year and was petting her while she was being put down. It was a very sad day. I have since then adopted 2 cats. One is 10 monthes and one is almost 3 months. Fat Albert Skitzgerald
He started acting odd a couple of days ago. We figure he had a stroke. Yesterday evening he started dragging a leg and had a hard time getting around. We tried to get a mobile vet out to the house but they all shut down at 5 or so. We don't think he suffered. He was JUST A GREAT CAT. I should say this BUT HE WAS MY FAVORITE.
Sorry for your loss. My wife adopted a kitten last weekend while I was in Lake Charles gambling. Now she is having to find a home for it because as it turns out my son is allergic and he keeps waking up with his eyes swolen shut. My daughter is heart broken because she's already attached. I'll post a photo if you are interested.
RIP Zeke. My house is a zoo, and my favorite passed away 2 years ago last June. Not that I took her for granted, but its funny how much you realize they've been a big part of your life when they pass away. Now my favorite is once again our oldest, but she is probably only 10 or 11, so should have some years ahead of her still.
