    Hi everybody,

Man, it's been along time since I posted last. Maybe a year or so. Anyways, I was wondering if anybody had any idea how to apply for a job with the NBA. Not just any job either. I want to work at the stats tables. I don't know anything about those jobs but if there is anyone who can inform me abou them please tell me anything you can.

    Thank. :)

Let us know so the rest of us can quit our day jobs and work for the NBA, too.

Someone asked me about this last year and I was given the basic explanation that people in nearly every position on an NBA team have worked their way up through the ranks of either a sports franchise or a successful outside corporation that, in some way, mirrors or supports sports.

Often times, people start as interns running errands, work their way into a sales position or assistant to someone and so on. Most people who do this bounce around from organization to organization and many times from sport to sport. Someone may go from college basketball to amateur hockey to minor league baseball to the NFL to the NBA and so on, particularly in jobs that relate directly to the games like statistician.

If you really are interested in that type of work, start now. If you are still in high school, volunteer to work stat tables for varsity, jv, men's and women's basketball. Learn the plays and volunteer your time as a scout. I actually did that in high school and it was a blast.

In college, get involved in intermural athletics and try to get a job working with the athletic department either paid or simply on a volunteer basis.

That's how you end up with those types of jobs.

Jeff, I completely agree with you. Start young. I worked 2 different summers for the Dallas Cowboys (as an unpaid intern) and worked part-time as a radio sports broadcaster (no, not announcer) while in college. (I was also head of intramurals for my fraternity...) Anything you can do to get sports experience really helps with regards to your resume. Try to get your resume as sports-centric as possible (if you want a sports job, that is). It shows motivation, ambition, and a probable long-term committment to your desired field of work, which is what employers really look for.

Hey! Look at me now! I work with football trading cards... Eh, it's a living...
