well in a way yeah, he supports Jalen but he also used him as an example of how players feel the media folks who don't have the qualifications shouldn't be the ones voting on the mvp and controlling those type of narratives. I can see this change at some point with players being a much bigger voice and having their own platforms now. It's actually way overdue. You shouldn't have folks with 0 experience deciding who wins and who doesn't win prestigious awards at the highest level.

Let the players and coaches vote on awards like they used to do it. Too much bias when the arm chair nerds make their selections

That’s how you would get Westbrook on first team all nba every year

It's still better than having people with no real basketball experience making big decisions.

Embiid was robbed. I have nothing against Jokic, that's just the way I feel. I'm happy he supports Jalen Green.

Do you consider someone like morey having “no real basketball experience” because he wasn’t a player? There’s very little connection between playing basketball abd evaluating basketball

Morey doesn't have a say in who wins these awards. Folks like simmons who have 0 experience do which is the point. he shouldn't

What if only retired players and coaches were given the ability to vote. Not current players and coaches who would have more of a direct personal want/need to vote for their own players. That's not to rule out the possibility that those retired coaches and players wouldn't have their own personal relationships and biases but I think it would be less skewed than the media's view.

if they did which they don't, they would probably have the same rule as the All star game where coaches can't vote for their own players

they would mostly be completely clueless as they don't watch the games, would be worse then having a bunch of random fans voting

any type of contest or award with voting is always going to have questions of bias, that just comes with the territory. It really just comes down to who really should be able to control who wins these awards and whether or not it makes sense that certain voters are even justified to even have a vote.

    Guys like simmons clearly shouldn't

There's definitely better ones than having 0 qualifications simmons continuing to be able to vote

we're past the point of needing people to vote on this stuff anyway, there are enough advanced metrics now to automate the process. All voting can do is make things worse and give awards to undeserving people (i.e. the marcus smart dpoy nonsense)
