Is it me or was it annoying? Not that Elvin Hayes was annoying, or the content of the interview itself was annoying, but it annoyed me that Worrell and Drexler just stopped broadcasting the game for the entire first half of the 2nd quarter. Broadcasters do interviews all the time, but the degree to which they ignored the game seems unusual.
It is annoying, and I often find myself muting the TV when they do those sort of interviews, unless its someone like Daryl Morey who's actually talking about the current team and not stuff that happened 35 years ago
What I found annoying was that Drexler was on E. Hayes balls sack the whole time. I understand the man is a living legend/hall of famer/all time great, but Drexler was laying it on thick. I actually wanted to hear what E. Hayes had to say, but I kinda zoned out watching the game.
This. Extremely annoying. Hayes couldn't even say anything positive about the Rockets because Drexler would just respond with, "compared to YOU, they are scrubs! ha ha ha" That said, Elvin Hayes came off as an incredibly nice guy in the interview. Very humble, very polite.
all I know is that when it was time for the Bull's Eye segment,, Clyde was off, scribbled all around the screen and I did not understand any of the play he was trying to describe.. Drexler needs to be replaced by Calvin Murphy
I agree. Drexler has been extra annoying lately. I think someone must have told him to crank up the enthusiasm or something.
I enjoyed the interview. Clyde is annoying regardless, so I didn't mind 5 minutes of annoying game announcing being replaced by some thoughts by one of the all-time greats. I admittedly don't know much about Elvin Hayes or old school Rockets in general, so it was nice to hear some stories about it from my dad during that little segment. He got all excited telling me about the "Game of the Century" back in 1968 with Hayes, and I enjoyed hearing about it.
Completely agreed. Love Elvin Hayes but couldn't stand the interview. Maybe they should replace Drex with Elvin.
Put me in the minority, I actually enjoyed what he had to say. Now, Drexler on the other hand, please, get rid of him and bring Calvin back! He is worse than Bullard.
Expecting a complete doofus like Clyde to conduct an intelligent interview is hopeless. FSN should know better. Clyde embarrasses himself so much it's a shame.
I've never understood interviews during live game action. What's the point? It just seems to be a distraction. I mean nobody is watching the Wizards and the Rockets because they know Elvin Hayes is going to be interviewed, not even Elvin Hayes.
As a League Pass subscriber, I am forced to watch non-Rockets broadcasts of games and unfortunately, this sort of thing goes on all too often. The announcers quit announcing the game. The actual game is replaced by a picture in picture in the best case scenarios. The worst case scenarios are when the interview becomes the only visual aspect of the broadcast, as if the game that's going on isn't worth showing as long as there is someone there to interview. I tune in to watch the game. If you can deliver an interview to me and not sacrifice any part of the reason I tune in, then great. It's a bonus. But if you're keeping me from getting the entertainment experience that I expected when I chose to tune in to your broadcast, then you're doing something wrong. Either interview the guy between timeouts or during half-time. Or have a special with the guy after the game. Just don't interfere with the broadcast when the shot clock is ticking. It annoys me to no end.
Transcript of the interview. Clyde: What's the difference between the NBA when you played and today? hehehe Hayes: The guys these days are so athletic and mobile! Clyde: They are nothing compared to you, you were the best rebounder of all time, hehehe. Hayes: And these guys are such great shooters and have so much range! Clyde: Absolute garbage compared to you, you are the greatest shooter in the history of the NBA! Hayes: And the TV commentators now, they are so much more intelligent than what we had back in the day! Clyde: Nonsense, we are just complete morons compared to you, the greatest commentator of all time!
So did Clyde laugh during the whole interview? Did he get any actual words out besides 'ha' 'ha 'ha'?
