The Clippers are the one LA team that I could actually root for.

I take it that's because you can only get tickets for them in LA? ;)

Elton Brand is good - if healthy. Baron Davis is good - if healthy.

But for some reason, I think the change of scenery in the West has little impact on the playoff picture. The Warriors drop, the Clippers rise, but I still don't know if either make the playoffs. I'm betting on the same 8 playoff teams next year with the only change right now being potentially Portland, or due to injuries dropping a team out.

I always root for the Clippers if for no other reasons than my hatred of the Lakers. For some times, I actually liked them because they had some players I liked, Cassell, Mobley, Livingston.

And I like Brand too. I think he (apart from his injury last season) is probably the most dependable player the Clippers have ever had. Trading for Brand was one of the very few smart moves they ever did.

    They don't.

If a team doesn't have the MLE at their disposal when teams are able to start using it (July 1st), then they never get it.

i just don't get why elton and baron decieded to take a paycut to play for the CLIPPERS. aren't there other underthecap teams? they both lost around 5-7 million for every year they play for their contract.

so.. baron lost 30 million in the long run... and brand, depending on how long his contract is, would lose around the same.

Baron probably was not getting a bigger contract elsewhere.

    Elton won't go hungry either.

When drafted, Baron Davis actually WANTED the Clippers to draft him. I think he's from California. That draft went:

    1. Chicago: Brand
    2. Vancouver: Francis
    3. Clips: Odom
    4. Charlotte (Hornets at the time): Davis

    8 years later, he's there.

Baron is from LA and has a lot of business interest in the area. He also didn't take a paycut, not many teams are going to offer a PG with a history of injuries max dollars for 5 years at Barons age.

Just a minor correction. Baron was the 3rd pick for the Charlotte Hornets.
Odom was the 4th pick for the Clippers.
You're absolutely right about Baron wanting to be drafted by the Clippers.

man the clippers are an awesome team to get drafted for. you look so good compared to the scrubs that every team is dying to get you just because of your potential.

then when you actually go to a real team you suck but since you still have potential, they keep paying you more and more. no wonder its so hard for the clips to keep their drafted players.

I just can't get used to Donald Sterling spending money. It's simply too strange! Could there be a case of demonic possession? Aliens taking over his body? The Stepford Owner?

What the hell is up with Sterling??

that was a pretty good top 4 in that draft. All 4 players are still good and contribute with the exception of our player Francis.. sighhhh what the heck happened to SF

Good moves by the Clippers. Elton + Baron is very solid. Plus they still have Caveman. If they really want to make a splash they could offer Mobley and Tim Thomas to the Nets for VC. (Both guys come off the books in 2010, and they are decent-ish players)

This offseason is off to a crazy start.

(07-02) 12:02 PDT -- The Clippers lured away the Warriors' best player.

Now Golden State is hoping to return the favor.

Flush with cap space after Davis' sudden exit, the Warriors have offered free agent Elton Brand a five-year deal worth between $85 and $90 million, according to league sources.

Brand, like Davis, opted out of the final year of his contract just before Monday's deadline, giving up a guaranteed $16.4 million for next season. At the time, Brand's agent, David Falk, told reporters that the move was designed to create some cap flexibility for the Clippers to add another top-line player.

The Clippers did just that by agreeing to terms with Davis on a five-year contract worth about $65 million Tuesday, though the deal cannot be finalized until July 9.

The Clippers had offered Brand is a five-year deal worth about $70 million - about $20 million less than the Warriors.

Brand, who had been close to re-signing with the Clippers, is expected to make a decision today.

Golden State had previously gone after Wizards guards Gilbert Arenas, offering him a maximum contract of five years at roughly $100 million on Monday night after learning that Davis would be opting out.

The Warriors are also meeting with representatives for Monta Ellis in Oakland today to begin negotiations on a new contract for the restricted free agent.

Baron Davis's 2nd love is Hollywood. He is producing Asylum and is working on Penitentiary next.

Maggette or no Maggette, the Clippers could be dangerous this year. Granted, they have a team full of guys with durability issues and in Baron Davis' case: try-when-I-feel-like-it syndrome, but I like the outlook for this team especially if they can convince Maggette to resign.

    PG Davis
    SG Maggette
    SF Thornton
    PF Brand
    C Kaman

    Gordon/Mobley/Thomas/Ross off the bench
