Wish her the best but I do wonder if maybe she wasn't in "puppy love" or something with this guy. I mean, these things never turn out with the kidnapee coming through unscathed. Whatever the case glad she's ok.
Puppy love?? The guy is a 40-something drifter who worked at their house one time. I certainly don't think this is an instance of the victim "asking for it." Depending on what transpired during those nine missing months, this poor girl is going to need some pretty extensive therapy. My heart goes out to her and her family. I'm thankful they'll be reunited.
I am very happy for the entire Smart family. This is excellent news in a pre-dominantly 'bad news" world. We all need this to lift our spirits in these hard times. As so many missing children cases end in tragedy, it is comforting to know they all don't. There is probably nothing better than the joy this family is experiencing in their reunification with their daughter. It brings a tear to my eye. I hope she is okay on the inside and not just the outside. It's also a sad note that the other guy who was accused of doing this and died in prison(named Ricci I think) had to go through what he did. He died a guilty man by many accounts. May he and his family be lifted in this time as well. Surf
They found her. Alive. Praise the Lord. Wonderful, wonderful news. That was the top story for a couple months last year. And now they found her. This is awesome. I'm with you guys, though. I hope she's not traumatized.
more http://www.upi.com/view.cfm?StoryID=20030312-055007-9278r Elizabeth Smart found alive in Utah From the National Desk Published 3/12/2003 6:01 PM View printer-friendly version SALT LAKE CITY, March 12 (UPI) -- The search for Elizabeth Smart came to an end Wednesday when the missing teenager was found alive and well in the Salt Lake City suburb of Sandy. The teenager was kidnapped at gunpoint from her family's Salt Lake City home on June 5, 2002. Police said the missing girl, now 15, was in the company of another female and a former handyman Brian David Mitchell, also known as Emanuel, who police had been looking for in connection with the girl's disappearance. Smart, who had been the target of a nationwide search since last summer, was discovered during a traffic stop in the city of Sandy, a suburb about 13 miles from downtown Salt Lake City after two witnesses reported they had seen a man matching Mitchell's description accompanied by someone who appeared to be the missing teen. Police did not immediately reveal any details of the girl's disappearance. But Fox News reported that Mitchell had performed some work for Elizabeth's father, Ed Smart, and felt he had not been paid enough. Fox News said Ed Smart told them that Elizabeth had said she and Emanuel had hidden in the hills near the family home for several days after the reported kidnapping and spent months driving around the country with the other woman, traveling to San Diego and Florida. The prime suspect in the case had been another handyman, Richard Ricci, who died in custody of an aneurysm last summer and was never charged in Elizabeth's alleged kidnapping.

http://play.rbn.com/?url=kslam/kslam/live/kslam.rm&proto=rtsp You can listen to the news conference here if you can't watch it on TV. Obviously, everybody here it Utah is pretty excited.
Her father is on TV and just stated that "she lived in the backyard" (referring to the hills behind her house) through August. He also said that on several ocasions she could hear the searchers calling her name while looking for her. I am sure more will come out, but that is pretty wild. It really makes you wonder how good of a job they were doing.
