I guess that means he'll be in Israel another year since the Summer League was going to be a big factor in his position with the Rockets.
Ya cuz let me tell you, the competition that Israeli team will face is loads more conducive towards Eliyahu's growth.
It's too bad. Another year with the league team will help.I know he has been called for his national team but I hope his league team won't try to hold him up for contractual reasons and buyouts.I was surprised and pleased with his outside shooting.
I understand why the national team wants him back, but this REALLY hurts Eliyahu's chances to play this season. They're drastically cutting short the time Adelman and Friends have to look at him against other NBA talent.
I don't mind this at all. If he stays and doesn't make the roster for the rockets 07-08 season, then Israel would be disappointed in him that he didn't help his country, friends , family etc..w/e. in playing for his national team. This just slows down his development from international basketball and the nba.
Damn, this kid had the best game out there IMO. He was everywhere. Dude showed a nice little crossover to get to the rim and was always cutting and slashing to the right spots. In a year or two, he could really be a solid contributer.
I was being sarcastic about the fact that whenever Yao did anything with the national team, people blame "Chinese government" for it.
He seems at the moment to kind of be between positions (3 & 4). I agree he looked very good, but I don't know how that would translate to actual play in the NBA at this point.
I agree, but Lior has a lot of talent and I really think this he could be a nice little find in a year or two. He just needs to keep playing ball, regardless of where he plays it. He can run the floor and he's athletic. He fits well into a running system like Adelman employs.
At least he came to summer league, unlike JL3 (who could stand to benefit by learning the coaching system earlier under Elston Turner). He's leaving summer league at the behest of his national team--legitimate reason. I hope he comes back ASAP though.
Eliyahu has got game on him and can develop in NBA type of game. Good luck!! and see you next year's summer game.
Israeli basketball? Who gives a **** about Israeli basketball? Israelis themselves don't know they have a national basketball team. New Rule: all Middle Eastern states should be banned from playing basketball in international competitions, if only to save themselves the embarrassment. Our scouts go to the weirdest basketball 'not-so-hot' spots to recruit future talent. But Eliyahu seems like a decent talent, not sure if he's NBA-material though. Have to see a lot more from him before I can decide, a one-game sample size isn't adequate...
"Eliyahu had initially hoped to remain with the Rockets until the final summer league game Sunday night against the New Orleans Hornets, but will instead report to the national team's training session at Hadar Yosef earlier in the day." The way this is worded, it looks like he'll only miss one game in summer league. However, the tournament appears to be in the first half of September, based on the EuroBasket site. Does anyone know when Rockets training camp starts?
