elie got offered a mavs asst coaching position. took it. then went back and asked for more money. cuban ripped up his contract and told him he would never work for the mavs. kiss of death is now looking to hook back up with rockets tv. he is going to be a great coach. coach a must not have felt comfortable with him either.
With all the rockets love for Elie to be our assistant coach, I actually thought he was signed! At least he's still in Houston
did he really rip up the contract and say he would never work for the mavs? i hope elie now wants revenge on the mavs
Do you really think he'd make a great head coach? Maybe assistant, but listening to him give analysis on Fox Sports this past year and on his radio show with SR610, it was quite pitiful. He seemed like a more polished Cynthia Cooper, which doesn't say much. Sure, Cynthia got Prairie View to their first NCAA Tournament appearance in years, but if I were to put Elie up against other coaches, he'd be at the bottom of my list. I even had Elie below Thibs and Reggie Theus as possible replacements for JVG. He just seems like he has a huge ego. I don't doubt his work with the Warriors. That's why I think he'd make a great assistant to help young guys adjust, develop and motivate them. Maybe college is Elie's calling first.
When Elie was a player for the Rockets, he was a great interview full of info and nuggets about the NBA. He spoke his mind said a lot of stuff average fans had no idea of. Not just general stuff, but specifics about particular players and teams. Seems like since he got into coaching and set his mind on becoming a head coach, he is too reserved with his public comments for fear of offending anyone. I agree that his radio show on AM610 was a zero because he wouldn't say anything. I'm not sure he would be a good head coach, but there's more to Mario than what he puts out on AM610 and Fox Sports. I bet you if/when he gives up on coaching and decides to pursue broadcasting full time, he will turn into a different person on the air.
That just seems dumb of him to accept the job then ask for more money. Why not just ask for more before accepting or contribute something before asking?
I'm not so sure he'll suceed. He wasn't that well received in Golden State. Has had a hard time finding another assistant position, and upon finding one with a winning team and a friend, he managed to end it before it started. He might have Larry Smith syndrome.
Blessing in disguise. BIGGEST mistake of the off season is Les not creating room for another assistant coach. The Mavs have a ton... The Rockets need one more relatively young guy that Houston fans have an affinity for. We kept Rudy in the organization for a while with various head coaches going in & out... One more positive voice in the locker room is money worth spent. It's not about game...it's about attitude. The Rockets players need to be around Championship attitude. The Spurs acquired Championship attitude (Elie & Horry) and won Championships. Point blank. Both Yao & Tracy haven't shown they have Championship mettle. Hakeem could go toe to toe with anyone in his 2nd year in the league. It wasn't all about talent. Anyway I digress. Let's correct the mistake and get Elie on the staff...
What's with guys in the Rockets organization and assistant coach drama this year? First Thibs, now Elie?
I don't know about you guys, but I don't want a guy who accepts a contract only to turn around and then ask for more money. Sounds like a complete me first, money is everything guy instead of a team guy and I don't want anyone like that anywhere close to the rockets.
Maybe he just wanted to play with Cuban a bit just to see his PO expression? Every true blooded Rocket would have done that.
Let the Rockets hire Ellie and when we knock out the mavs out of the playoffs he can give Cuban the kiss of death
What's the deal with him? He was given a tremendous opportunity at Washington, and he just left them like that? Is he looking for a better opportunity for a contender or will he seek college opportunities?
