I'm having trouble with my dryer working and I think that I've narrowed it down to the 220 outlet. The dryer tumbles but does not get hot. At first I thought it was the dryer and I bought another one and it did the same thing. After doing a google search I see that probably half of the 220 blew a breaker which would cause the heating mechanism not to work on the dryer.

My problem is that none of the breakers in the house breaker box are for the dryer. Is it common to have a separate breaker set for just the dryer? I'm renting and it's a duplex. I've search all over looking for another set of breakers. This is driving me crazy because I've been through a lot buying 2 dryers when my original dryer probably didn't break in the first place.

Anyway, my main question is whether or not any of you have had a similar problem and if anyone might have a clue to where they might hide another set of breakers. Maybe outside somewhere?

How far is the breaker box that you found from the electrical meter?

Yeah, 220, 221, whatever it takes.

You will often see a double pole breaker used for a 220 dryer. That could be a clue for you. Esp. if one pole is tripped, like you surmise.

How did you determine none of the breakers go to the dryer? Did you try turning them all off and then switch one on - one at a time? Often labels are incorrect or incomplete.

Your box inside might be a sub-panel run from the main. The main is usually on the exterior near the meter. you might find a breaker there.

Its definitely the voltage is not high enough. You most likely have a bad breaker.

I don't know of a separate breaker box but it is possible.

Classic, that was the first thing I thought of when I saw the title.

I guess I haven't seen the movie that everyone is alluding to. I didn't get the joke at first.

Anyway, I found out that none of the breakers at the main breaker box in my garage turns off the dryer. I turned the dryer on and then I went through each breaker. None of them turned the dryer off. So, there's got to be a set somewhere else. The electric meter is in my neighbors backyard (I'm in a duplex). I'm going to go check over there some time today and see if I can find anything.

I'll call my landlord as well, but he just bought this from someone else about a year ago and so I doubt that he knows any more than I do.

Thanks for the help all. And thanks for a joke that I don't get but maybe I'll get to see that movie sometime. LOL
