I kind of skimmed over the article...didn't realize it was for more than $860M.

For comparison, Sony paid ~$33M to acquire Evolution and Bigbig Studios (probably better comparisons out there, but that figure was in my head since those details were released today as well).

I won't know how I feel about this until I see if it changes the types of programs and quality that bioware releases.

They have put out some of my favorite games.

    Get used to seeing this:

Featuring EA Trax, and available for all major platforms, including mobile phones and the N-Gage.

OK, not really, but I am somewhat worried. BioWare might be allowed to do their own thing, like they've been doing, but I'm worried that EA may have a different plan in mind (like they did with other major developers they acquired in the past).

On another note, this sure has been a tough month for Microsoft Game Studios. I thought they owned the IP to Mass Effect, but apparently BioWare owned it (and now, EA has it). They may have an exclusive publishing deal for the game though...not sure if it would be for the whole trilogy though (and I guess EA could still release spin-offs for multiple platforms). Wonder if they'll be making some moves in the near-future to secure some other exclusive IPs (either by funding/publishing games, or by acquiring developers), or if they'll stick with what they have now.
