An unexpected beat down. People around here thought northam would go down to the wire and that maybe there'd be modest gains in the absurdly gerrymandered 66-33 house. Instead, all of MS13 must have voted because Gillespie got rolled early and the state house is a toss up headed for a recount. Feels good man. Feels not so good to be a Trump man.
this is hilarious! 25 year incumbent and bathroom bill pushing douche got tossed out of office by a tranny. what a loser...sad. i never thought id see a black man as president in my lifetime and it happened. it honestly never even crossed my mind to think whether or not a transgendered person could win an election, but if you had asked me i would have said "no f***ing way". https://wamu.org/story/17/11/07/dan...paign=npr&utm_term=nprnews&utm_content=202807 Danica Roem Elected First Transgender Member Of Virginia House Manassas native Danica Roem (D), has won her race in Virginia’s 13th District, becoming the first transgender member of the Virginia House of Delegates. The race was one of this year’s most high profile, drawing national and international attention to the northern Virginia district near Washington D.C. Roem ran against Republican Bob Marshall (R) who authored a failed “bathroom bill” in the state earlier this year. Marshall first took office in 1992 and has held the seat in Virginia’s House since then. He refused to debate Roem during this year’s campaign. Marshall said in an interview earlier this year that, “Danica clearly is out here doing this for making a marker in the national character that you can engage in this behavior – which clearly goes against the laws of nature and nature’s God – and hold public office to make decisions on behalf of the common good… That is what is kind of at stake here.” The Republican Party of Virginia also paid for a mailer referring to Roem as a man. Roem’s campaign focused on fixing traffic issues and improving schools in her district. She hoped to fix congestion along a claustrophobic section of road in suburban Virginia. She rarely made her identity a topic on the campaign trail. “What motivates me to run is the fact that my mother has been commuting up and down Route 28 for more than 30 years…and delegate (Bob) Marshall cares more about where I go to the bathroom as a transgender woman than how his constituents get to work,” she said on WAMU’s The Kojo Nnamdi Show in July. Prince William County Democratic Committee leader Don Shaw told NPR that he encouraged Roem to run. “I would say that I didn’t recruit her because she is a transgender woman,” Shaw said. “I recruited her because of her credentials.” Before running for office, Roem worked as a newspaper reporter. She told NPR’s Sarah McCammon last month that her journalism experience would help her in the role. “I’ve dedicated my professional career to vetting information…and then reporting the truth as it is, not what other people hope it should be,” she said. “…And when I’m in office I can do the same thing.” Virginia’s Democratic party had 43 women running for the House of Delegates this year, more than ever before.
Historical night. This is the moment when political scientists can point out when Trumpism was repudiated by the people in a massive fashion. Not only Northam trounced Ed Gillispie in the polls (nearly 9%), but a transgender woman unseated a guy who had held the position longer (25 years) than the Rockets last championship. As far as 2018, this is a BIG shot of adrenalin for the democrats, and a warning sign for incumbents who plan to back up Trump on issues that matter to working folks --- health care and taxes. Like I said, don't **** with my money.
That's a new level of jerkiness even from a piece of trash like Trump. You seriously believe this? They are too scared of him and his core constituency. Remember there are upcoming primaries and they don't want to be politically assassinated by his Tweet storms. Assuming Mueller doesn't damage him too much, Republicans won't begin distancing themselves from Trump until after mid-terms. He will become a lame duck as everyone focuses on 2020.
I think that you are wrong. Elected Repubs will start distancing themselves from Trump if they fall behind early in the polling leading into the 2018 elections.
The Republican California delegation has 14 members in the House. With a state income tax that can go as high as 13.3% for which no federal deduction will be allowed under the proposed Trump tax plan, how many of them will vote for what will be in effect a TAX INCREASE for the people they represent? I can see political ads targeting these guys, and I am curiously waiting for this outcome.
