This is from the Detroit Free Press and the blurb about Campbell is at the end. ------------------------------------------ There's no room for Paulding -- yet August 31, 2004 Rickey Paulding turned to Israel to save his season. Since the Pistons already have 15 contracts guaranteed, Paulding, the 54th pick from June's NBA draft, wasn't going to get one from them. Instead he signed a one-year deal to play for Hapoel Jerusalem. "We think this can be a great opportunity for Rickey to continue to improve and to get experience at a professional level against talented players," vice president of operations John Hammond said Monday. "This can only make him a better player." The Pistons retain his rights, and expect Paulding, a 22-year-old swingman, to bid for a spot again in 11 months, during summer league play. It wasn't so much that he didn't impress this time around as it was a case of there being no room. "That's exactly what it was," Hammond said. Paulding, from Detroit Renaissance, finished ninth in career scoring at Missouri with 1,673 points, and fifth all-time in three-pointers with 191. He can cut to the basket and defend, but faced a depth chart that included Carlos Delfino, Lindsey Hunter and Darvin Ham. One of those guaranteed contracts, however, might be moved before training camp opens, because president Joe Dumars isn't keen to carry seven big men. Elden Campbell could be the top candidate for relocation. By Helene St. James ------------------------------------------ It looks like Detroit is another team that could use a Piakowski type of player off the bench, especially since the only backup they have to Rip Hamilton is Carlos Delfino. They really have no depth ant the 2 or 3, so maby the package of Wilks, Griffin and Pike that was offered to Chicago would work. But, I guess if they are trying to open up a roster spot for Paulding then that might not work after all.
Granted Campbell is very old but he looked VERY GOOD in the Lakers series in his limited minutes off the bench at backup C. He played great team ball and had some nice assists. He isnt as good a shot blocker as Mutombo but Campbell can run the floor much better and is a better offensive player all the way around. I think Campbell would be a VERY NICE backup C addition to our team. If I had a choice I would go with Campbell over Mutombo.
Sorry about not posting a link. Wouldn't it be nice if we could get both Mutombo and Campbell? Don't know how we could do it and I am sure Spoon or Taylor would have to be moved in order for it to happen. Maybe Spoon to the Hawks for a TE? I don't know. Two decent big men on the last year of their contracts for this season would be nice. IMO Just a thought I had.
Pistons has tried to unload Campbell's salary all along. Why would we give them Pike, who still has some trade value? We're not that desperate to get Capmbell.
Well he is better than Mutombo but not by much. It's sort like chosing between a 10-year corpse and a 100-year corpse. The 10-year corpse is fresher but they're both still doorknob dead.
Dumars may be looking to Trade Campbell According to an article in the sporting news, Joe Dumars is looking to unload some of his guarranteed contracts..."One of those guaranteed contracts, however, might be moved before training camp opens, because president Joe Dumars isn't keen to carry seven big men. Elden Campbell could be the top candidate for relocation". Since talks with the Bulls for Deke have cooled Maybe the Rox should try to work something out for Campbell, we could certainly do alot worse.
You wouldn't give up PIke for Cambell? Hate to break it to ya buddy, but Old Elden has more trade value than Pike right now. He is a decent big man who has a contract coming off the books next season.
Campbell would be a better option than Scott Williams. I want to give Pike another chance but I would trade him for Campbell.
