I was playing basketball last Monday. When I was jumping for a rebound, I got a hit right to my throat from someone elses elbow. My energy level went down some and my throat started to hurt. Immidiately, I thought of Bill Cartwright whose voice is hurt because of being elbowed in the pharynx. I was able to continue playing. Every now and then, I feel a little pain it. Should I go to the doctor to make sure everything is cool? Or are any of you out there are doctors/medical people that can give me advice? Thank you in advance.
The most dangerous complication after a blow to the neck would be damage to a carotid artery, one of the major blood vessels in the neck, leading to formation of a blood clot, which can later dislodge and cause a stroke. http://www.physsportsmed.com/issues/1996/02_96/troop.htm Symptoms may not be very severe initially and also may not occur immediately after the injury. Of course, the neck contains many other important structures which can also be damaged with blunt trauma to the neck, which can be fixed much more easily if diagnosed early. You should definitely go see a doctor to rule out anything that is serious or can lead to more chronic problems.
Na, just hang in there and be a man. j/k. Jesus, man, go see a doctor instead of asking a bunch of geeks what the pain occurring in your neck is. By the time you get the right answer from one of us, you could be dead. "Hi, my house is burning down, what do you guys think I should do?"
yeah, what the Dr said. more than likely all you did was bruise the thousand and one things that are in your neck, but definitely go see a doctor just to double check.
FUN FACT: According to the National Institutes of Health, there are as many as 70 billion bacteria cells in each gram of human poop (dry). That's a lot of fecal flora!
I just ran into an opening door at full speed (I was talking to someone). Hit my bony shoulder, but no pain. I must have strong bones.
yeah. those things are only cool if other people have them... not you. it would be badass to curse somebody out with one of those things. anyway, i agree with DoD... go see a doctor. is asking us worth the risk of having your neck look like this? see a doctor didn't think so. shock opinion advertisement
