.....miles better than the last one. I have always liked McCain.....voted for him in 2000 in the primary, I have been hugely dissappointed in him voting with Bush, but think he has the capacity to be a lot better than Bush. I don't like Palin, I think she is a fake...but if McCain wins, I will just pray that he stays alive and effective. And my guy Obama, I like him a lot..... So, for the first time in like 20 years, I am actually happy with the candidate choices...... Anyone is better the G W Bush....anyone..... For the record, I still think Obama wins after killing in the debates...but it is going to be fun. Anyone else happy with our choices? DD
I've said this before but as symbols of America, our two presidential candidates would both be great. They would be amazing heads of state and would represent all that can be accomplished in America, especially Obama. As heads of government, I think both are severely lacking and while they would both be better than GWB, that's not saying too much.
....beholden to their party structure. Theres as much intrigue within a party's hierarchy as there is between parties. Every platform plank and appointment will be political and hard fought. That's why McCain won't be a maverick or a reformer. His party will not do the work if it's going to cost their benefactors. And why Obama's grand scheme will get bogged down and compromised.
I think it's conceivable that McCain could do worse on the economy than Bush, though it would be harder with a democratic congress. Let's just say that if he is president, and as he admits, he doesn't understand the economy, and continues to take advice from guys like Phil Gramm we might be in for a Hooveresque sh-tshow. Also the abolishment of a number of constitutional rights if Griswold v. Connecticut goes down, long a target of right wing judges, or shoudl I say "judicial activists," and basically the only thing keeping both Roe alive and the state out of your bedroom, is another tough pill to swallow that would be worse than anything that happened under Bush.
I gotta say DaDa...I'm having fun....It's a great time of the year! Palin is the future, not McCain and that makes me feel so much better for this country...She earned her way to the top, and didn't need a stupid "Bush" name to do it.... Obama is so likeable. I applaud you guys having someone like him rather than an "angry" Gore or Kerry...You guys need to continue with that. I stated Obama should have picked a blue dog...Look to left leaning moderates like Ford Jr. that is the future...Get off the Huffington, Code Pink, Move on, progressive movement...That is not the future... But I'm afraid, DaDakota...that if Obama loses, you guys will think moving more to the "angry spoken out-far left" mentality is a counter strategy...Please don't...Obama is a good guy. I just don't trust him with my children's future...I want a "one of us" type...A proven performer at the executive level with vast state-side effectiveness and approval from the citizens as confirmation...Obviously, I want Palin for the future...McCain is tolerable in the meantime...
The republican party has royally screwed up the economy. Not that I think the democrats will do any better, but the dollars is down 30% and if you take inflation into account our real wages are down as well, and the stock market is also down. I think your opinion is not thought out well.
exactly Even if McCain is marginally better. . or alot better he is stepping into a FAR FAR FAR FAR FAR WORSE Situation than Bush did bush came in - America was riding a nice little high now It is bad. . very bad Rocket River
In 20 years when the movie about this election is done who will be the director, Oliver Stone or the Cohen Brothers? I think we know the answer.
I remember way back in the beginning, the media was predicting a Giuliani vs. Clinton election -- my nightmare scenario. It turned out much better than I'd feared. On things I care about most (torture, abuse of power, ethics), Obama will certainly be better than Bush. McCain will probably be better, though I worry a little. As for the movies, I'm hoping it's the Coen Brothers directing; they're so much better than Oliver Stone.
are you really happy with either choice, or does it just seem that way because there's no where to go but up?
As I said a few months ago (though much has already come to fruition), the next President will be walking into a fantastic market environment. The dollar was irrationally low and oil/commodities were irrationally high. This combined with the most attractive stock prices in over 15 years and risk priced so much into the system, have me thinking the regression to the mean of the dollar, commodities prices and stock prices will have the next president look to be a hero! It will be like Clinton walking into the White House in 1992, corporate earnings were strong and the market had come out of a recession and was ready to roar.
I don't. Which one? Cohens could do a good job with Palin. Think Fargo only in Alaska. Stone if it turns out dark and bitter. (You can have the first line...you can do better on the second)
